12 July 2021: Chris pitched Low and Slow Stark as Animal Tennis returned

Chris was quietly building a barbecue brand

Scott had noticed something on Chris’s social media.

Every weekend seemed to contain elaborate barbecue preparation.

Meat.

Smoke.

Long cooking times.

American pit-master energy.

Chris insisted he was simply enjoying a hobby.

Scott could already see the television version.

Low and Slow Stark.

Chris imagined travelling through the American South learning from serious barbecue experts.

Scott was fully willing to join him.

There was only one problem with Chris’s existing social-media output.

He often posted the beginning of the cook.

Then forgot to post the final result.

As cookery television, it was like watching *Bake Off* stop before anybody took the cake out of the oven.

Animal Tennis returned because Abby demanded it

Listener Abby called specifically to ask for another round of Animal Tennis.

She had heard the previous game on the podcast and said it was exactly the stupid thing people needed.

Scott agreed.

The game returned with noises from tennis players mixed among animals.

A horse.

Tennis grunts.

Other creatures.

The challenge remained surprisingly difficult because professional tennis players genuinely can sound like animals when smashing a ball.

Scott and Chris again began creating imaginary rallies between the noises.

The less the feature resembled actual tennis, the more they liked it.

The Who Game did what it did best

Monday’s Who Game brought more forgotten everyday culture back into the room.

The strongest entries were not ancient.

They were things people had used constantly only a few years earlier and then completely stopped discussing.

That was the feature’s entire purpose.

Make somebody say the name.

Trigger the instant:

“Whooo!”

Greater Than made celebrity statistics meaningless

Don’t Look It Up included a Greater Than round.

Raheem Sterling’s Instagram following was compared with the population of Hong Kong.

Sterling’s follower count was actually higher.

Ant and Dec were compared with the number of beavers in North America.

The questions were deliberately useless in real life.

They were also exactly the kind of thing which forced Scott and Chris to guess wildly.

Forgotten Live Lounges completed the archive dive

The later quiz returned to old Radio 1 performances.

After years of Live Lounges, even significant artists could produce sessions Scott and Chris barely remembered.

The archive continued to feel almost endless.

For a show already obsessed with forgotten pop culture, that was ideal.
