Small lockdown wins still deserved a trumpet
Scott and Chris returned to Blow Your Own Trumpet with the same rule they had used throughout lockdown.
If something felt like an achievement to you, it counted.
One listener had finally started attending university lectures properly rather than waking up and joining “Zoomiversity” from bed.
Scott himself celebrated completing around 62 hours of Married at First Sight Australia.
Only *Game of Thrones*, he joked, had required more commitment.
Birmingham’s “mom” reopened a language argument
Mother’s Day was approaching and somebody in the West Midlands had been struggling to find a card using Mom rather than Mum.
Scott had not realised how strongly parts of Birmingham and the surrounding area used the spelling and pronunciation.
The discussion turned into the usual Radio 1 survey of regional language.
Then one caller arrived with a much more dramatic use of the word “mum”.
Dean’s date story sounded too ridiculous to be true
Dean joined It Was All Going Well Until… and announced:
he had previously been intimate with his date’s mum.
Scott’s first reaction was disbelief.
The programme received plenty of made-up stories and this had the smell of one.
Dean insisted it was genuine.
Years earlier, after a night out with friends, he had gone home with a woman.
He left that night and did not pay much attention to the house.
Later he met a younger woman on a dating app.
They got on well, went out and eventually ended up back at her home.
He only recognised the house the following morning
The second visit happened while Dean was much more sober.
Even then, he did not immediately realise he had been there before.
The following morning he sat in the kitchen drinking coffee with the woman he had been dating.
Someone walked in behind him.
His date said:
“This is my mum.”
Dean turned around.
The mother and Dean immediately recognised each other.
The house was the same one.
The woman he had previously gone home with was his new date’s mum.
Scott and Chris could hardly believe Dean had managed to create the sort of plotline which would normally be rejected from a soap for being too obvious.
Dean insisted the story was true
Listeners were understandably suspicious.
Dean later texted the programme to insist the whole thing was 100% true.
Scott believed him.
The feature had begun as a collection of dates ruined by one unfortunate detail.
Dean had managed to introduce an entire family tree.
