10 March 2021: Granny Tinder wrote to BBC boss Tim Davie to get Chris Stark on Celebrity MasterChef

Lolathon eve required an overnight survival plan

Scott and Chris were hours away from beginning another 24-hour Lolathon for Comic Relief.

Chris immediately slipped into the role he always took when Scott faced an unusually long broadcast.

He started organising Scott.

Clothes.

Fresh trainers.

Food.

Anything Scott might forget because he assumed somebody else would deal with it.

The pair discussed what should go into an overnight bag and what might keep them awake once the initial excitement disappeared in the middle of the night.

The broadcast would begin at 9am the following morning and continue for 24 hours.

Vick and Katie had plans for Scott after 10pm

Radio 1’s Vick Hope and Katie Thistleton joined with one of the more unusual parts of the schedule.

Scott had previously admitted that although he had seen the top half of a naked woman, he had never seen the bottom half in real life.

The Naked Attraction conversation with Brian had already turned this into a recurring subject.

Vick and Katie now wanted to turn the situation into late-night sex education.

Scott would finally be shown female anatomy in an informative context.

The team treated it as educational.

Chris was far more interested in watching Scott’s reaction.

Scott compared the whole thing with Gogglebox: the entertainment might be less the thing Scott was seeing than everybody else watching Scott see it.

Granny Tinder went directly to the top of the BBC

Lynette had recently discovered Chris wanted to appear on Celebrity MasterChef.

She decided ordinary networking was unnecessary.

Instead she wrote formally to the BBC’s Director-General, Tim Davie.

The letter gave both addresses in full, introduced Lynette as Granny Tinder and explained that Chris had developed a passion for cooking.

She politely asked whether Tim could recommend him as a candidate.

Scott and Chris were delighted by how seriously the letter had been written.

The sign-off was formal.

The request was clear.

The BBC’s highest-ranking executive had effectively been asked to help get Chris onto a celebrity cooking show because somebody’s grandmother thought he would be entertaining.

Working at the BBC did not mean automatic television access

Chris stressed that simply being employed by the BBC did not mean he could walk downstairs and appear on whatever programme he wanted.

Scott joked that even *The One Show* was physically in the same building and still was not something they could simply invite themselves onto.

That made Lynette’s approach even better.

If ordinary internal routes were not going to do it, she would write to the boss.

The only remaining question was whether Tim Davie would actually reply.
