Radio 1’s glamorous image was slightly misleading
Scott looked around the studio and laughed at the difference between what people imagine BBC Radio 1 looks like and the reality.
One of his buttons was broken.
The solution was a Post-it note stuck over it so he would remember not to press it.
Listeners pointed out that astronauts on Apollo 13 had used similar low-tech reminders.
That did not make Radio 1 feel any more glamorous.
Scott and Chris also admitted they had been avoiding a fresh photo shoot because lockdown had left both feeling less camera-ready than usual.
They were perfectly happy for old faces to be put on animated bodies if necessary.
Lynette was relieved to see the end of lockdown approaching
Granny Tinder returned in an upbeat mood after the government’s roadmap gave people tentative dates for life reopening.
Lynette’s first priority was a haircut.
She had not been to the salon since October.
Scott and Chris began comparing everybody’s lockdown hair and wondering what they would look like by the time Lolathon arrived.
Bitcoin did not impress Granny Tinder
The first profile belonged to Aaron, a 27-year-old stockbroker.
His bio promised he was looking for a long-term investment rather than a quick buck.
His interests included Bitcoin, whisky and expensive watches.
Scott appreciated the effort put into the finance-themed wording.
Lynette heard Bitcoin and immediately became suspicious.
Cryptocurrency sounded dodgy.
She wanted no part of it.
Aaron was swiped left.
Plumbers apparently lead lonely wives’ lives
The next profile was Jerome, a plumber with jokes about U-bends, O-rings and laying pipe.
Lynette focused less on the innuendo and more on the profession.
Plumbers could be called out at any time, she reasoned.
Zofia might barely see him.
Listeners who were actually married to plumbers began texting in, amused that Granny Tinder had just diagnosed them with lonely lives.
Bamboleo inspired a replacement for Innuendo Bingo
During the Wednesday ritual, Chris started thinking about the feature they had officially retired because of COVID.
Could Innuendo Bingo return without people spraying water into each other’s faces?
Perhaps a remote or socially distanced version could preserve the clips while removing the dangerous part.
Scott was sceptical.
The water and the attempt not to laugh had been the whole game.
An alternative version risked becoming Innuendo Bingo in name only.
Even so, Chris kept brainstorming.
Rapper or Accountant returned
Don’t Look It Up brought back the naming game.
Scott and Chris were now experienced enough to be overconfident.
The names remained difficult enough to punish that confidence.
