2 February 2021: A 10-year-old explained the Olivia Rodrigo love triangle better than Scott and Chris could

Radio 1 needed a 10-year-old to explain the tea

Scott and Chris had spent the previous show trying to understand the theories surrounding Olivia Rodrigo’s *drivers license*, Sabrina Carpenter’s *Skin* and Joshua Bassett.

They knew the basic ingredients.

Olivia and Joshua had appeared together in *High School Musical: The Musical: The Series*.

Fans believed the pair had dated.

Joshua was then linked with Sabrina.

Lyrics about a “blonde girl” and Sabrina’s apparent response had sent social media into full detective mode.

Scott and Chris still could not keep the timeline straight.

So they called ten-year-old listener Leonie.

Leonie made the whole thing sound simple

Leonie calmly explained the theory from beginning to end.

Olivia and Joshua had apparently stopped posting together.

Joshua and Sabrina had been seen together, including at lunch and holding hands.

Fans then interpreted Olivia’s song as being about Joshua and Sabrina, followed by Sabrina’s song as a response.

Scott asked whether any of this was actually confirmed.

Leonie was much less interested in legal standards of proof.

People had seen them together.

There were photos.

The tea was the tea.

Scott and Chris immediately decided 10-Year-Old With The T deserved to become a recurring position.

Listeners agreed and started calling for Leonie to be given a job.

Amelia and Louis looked like obvious siblings — until they did not

Brother or Lover then brought on 17-year-old Amelia from Wiltshire and 18-year-old Louis.

Almost every early clue pointed in the same direction.

Amelia had met virtually all of Louis’s previous girlfriends.

They only spoke on the phone every couple of days.

The last time they saw one another involved a family birthday meal.

They had never been away together alone.

Scott and most of the team became increasingly confident they were brother and sister.

Then came the sleeping question.

Amelia knew Louis wore very little to bed.

Suddenly the certainty disappeared.

Nearly everybody got it wrong

When the team committed, almost everyone still chose brother.

Only Flossie went for lovers.

The reveal:

lovers.

Scott was furious with himself.

The pair had expertly used perfectly normal relationship details to make themselves sound like siblings.

Brother or Lover had once again proved that confidence was usually the first step towards getting the answer wrong.

Blow Your Own Trumpet and celebrity-song trivia finished the show

Tuesday also meant listeners could celebrate small achievements on Blow Your Own Trumpet.

The quiz later included songs supposedly written about celebrities, forcing Scott and Chris to separate real pop-history stories from assumptions and rumours.

For a programme which had begun with internet speculation around three Disney stars, ending on songs about famous people felt particularly appropriate.
