Another day of my reviews, and today’s show wasn’t just any old Scott Mills show. It was in fact more like the Mark Chapman Show.
Why’s that? Well at 4.10pm the first we heard from Scott was on the phone from Reading train station on the way to Paddington. Supposedly the filming for Casualty had over-run and trains were cancelled as he tried to travel from Bristol back to London. Speculation from Chappers was that he was so rubbish filming for the show that they needed to do many takes. His prediction would he’d be back on the show just before 5 o’clock as the train will be getting to London at 4.35pm.

So until then it was the Mark Chapman show, with Chappers presenting, pressing the buttons, doing the sports news, and checking his e-mails. The only thing he didn’t seem to be doing was singing some jingles. As Scott made it back to London he continued to update the show with calls from his mobile phone – which he didn’t even manage to lose. He was given star treatment in Bristol, being given a directors chair, and there was someone on hand to mop his brow and check he was alright. He was even given a massive applause when he finished, which he’d quite like the team to do every day when he finishes the show. May be they can do that when he actually turns up on time instead…
Also on the phone was Rob, a camera operator, who was on set at Casualty earlier. Rob said the filming had started a whole 30 minutes earlier for Scott’s performance, and apparently he gave an ‘alright’ performance but did fluff up his lines one. There was no over-running, and afterwards he even spent some time in the sun. Chappers then had to apologise for believing Scott that it was the show’s fault for being late. Rob said he wasn’t even allowed to look him in the eye. That man has changed a lot recently…
I personally still don’t see why Scott couldn’t have done a ‘Prince Andrew’ and got a jet for the small distance he was travelling. Whilst they were it at it they could have got the red carpet and flags out too. I’m sure they could have lent Scott an ambulance to drive with flashing lights too. It would have got him there quicker! Anyway, twenty minutes into the show and another update from Scott. He was on the train, but wasn’t sure if he was going the right way. He was also stuck next to a lady who was asleep. Chopper seemed to think she probably was awake until Mills started telling his Casualty stories. There was an even more important reason to get back to the studio in time, as without Scott, the Six Weeks of Summer competition would be a disaster.

By 4.57 Scott finally arrived. His three lines on Casualty had taken 5 or 6s takes, and he had to wear a tweed jacket and cord trousers. When he arrived he had to get changed, and then get a minibus with some extras and nurses. They then had to rehearse with some lovely girls called Gemma, Lou and Maggie, who mopped his brow with a old towel. Despite it being the middle of July, this particular episode was set in November, as it’s going out on November 25th.
But things had changed from what we last heard. There may have been three nurses in a water fountain, but in filming there was only one, as the others will be added in later. His character Paul Lang now works for City Eye TV instead of a newspaper, and there’s a stunt double doing the rest of Scott’s scene. All this technical stuff and yet Scott can’t see a BAFTA coming his way just yet.
Radio 1’s Six Weeks of Summer
There was more from the Six Weeks of Summer competition today to decide who’s going to Global Gathering with Sara Cox. Thankfully the winner won’t have to look after the dog, as according to Chappers and Scott have both had past experiences of it and claim it’s evil. Today’s contestant had to answer Sara Cox’s Top 5 cocktails. So tomorrow Tom takes on James on The Chris Moyles show final.
May be Scott should be calling this fella for the answers?
I’ve started so I’ll finish
So after the hype that was the Casualty filming, next week it’s Celebrity Mastermind. Scott’s more nervous about this than getting on the horse for Sport Relief. Scott will up against Jimmy McGovern, the writer of Brookside and from Cracker, a bloke writing a biography about the old Pope, and Bernie Nolan. So whilst Scott was away, Chappers will play. He gave another call to Mastermind posing as an Australian producer for Prisoner Cell Block H, but yet still couldn’t manage to get the questions, and they still knew it was Chappers. So this is the bloke that by fluke must have got to gig for BCM twice, and yet can’t get the questions to next week’s Celebrity Mastermind!
We’re hoping he won’t do what some of these celebrities have done – Tara Palmer Tompkinson only got 6 points, whilst Myleene Klass got 17 out of 18 on Sex in the City Series 3, and only got one in the general knowledge category. It wasn’t looking too good when Chappers tested Scott on previous questions from the show. The only question he answered correctly was one on Bananarama. Scott’s close to quitting now, and his only other resort is to answer Bananarama for each of his answers. In a true Casualty style, tune in next time to find out whether Scott sticks at it, or whether he quits.
Good work from Chopper today for filling in for Scott, it’s a good job really that he was late otherwise I doubt there’d be that much banter for the show as most of the day was spent in Bristol. But not to worry, as tomorrow it’s your favourite time of the week, it’s only bley Friday.
