It’s Wednesday, and I’m here with my third review of the week.
**** The Scott Mills Show – Weekdays from 4pm on Radio 1 ****
Whilst Edith swans off to record the last ever Top of the Pops, Scott was getting rather excited about tomorrow’s big day of recording his Casualty role. Tonight he was off to Bristol with some of his old mates to learn his lines, with the help of some white wine. Maggie off of the wardrobe department has told Scott he needs to turn up scruffy, which he should have no problem with, but he thinks he should be fine if he pulls of the Geography Teacher look. Chappers on the other hand, instead of being the usual careless person he is, was concerned about the white wine that will be on tonight. He reminded Scott he can’t walk around the set of Casualty with sun glasses on when he’s feeling rough.
An artists impression of how Scott might look on the show…
And his television appearances don’t stop there. Bothered by the fact that he’s not being recognised off-air, Scott has booked himself for a Celebrity version of Mastermind. This must be the television work he told the ‘Daily Record’ about a while back. It sounded like a great idea at the time, just the like the wine will tonight, but he didn’t realise Mastermind includes a general knowledge quiz. So may be he’s wasted his money on two books for his chosen specialist subject of ‘Prisoner Cell Block H’. He said he’d written the date of this show in his diary but hasn’t got round to doing much about it. I’m not shocked by that, more so the fact that he actually has a diary, which keeps note of things that he needs to remember. His appearance on Celebrity Mastermind is a week on Friday, and he’s not allowing Chappers to be in the audience. Chappers is perhaps the unlucky vibe that caused Scott to fall off the horse last week.
So when you’re struggling with it all who do you turn to? Well, Susan Jeffers of course. Well not this time, he infact turned to the production team and gave them a call. Scott pleaded with them to let him have the answers, or even the questions. Not even money could do the job. But Scott isn’t one to be beaten, so he made Chappers pose as ‘Mark from RadioTimes magazine’ to get the questions. This is purely of course for research for the magazine. Unlike the rest of the television production teams around on the BBC, they were on the ball, and did recognise it was Chappers.
All these high profile television appearances you’d imagine Scott’s ego wouldn’t fit through the door. But it did, and so did Chopper’s after the stunning performances on World Cuppa.
And now time for one of Chopper’s stories. He had a friend who was on holiday up until recently, who had met a girl there. She was very nice, and he had spent the night with her. Is it all sounding fine so far? Well as he was leaving the following morning, he tried to make a silent exit, but she woke up. They exchanged phone numbers and arranged to stay in touch. After flying back he texted this girl to say how nice it was to see her. He didn’t get anything back, so he gave her a ring, and it went to her answerphone. By now you’d imagine it’d be the Flirt Divert number or something, as the dial tone was actually an English sounding tone. So he sent this number another text asking if it was the girl he presumed it was. An hour later he received a text back to find it was actually the girl’s mother, and some very interesting messages had gone straight to her. Some how I don’t see marriage on the cards!
Global Gathering… be afraid… Sara Cox is coming too!
Six Weeks of Summer
Now for the boring bit of the show where Radio 1 DJs have to talk about station events. So as part of Radio 1’s Six Weeks of Summer, a DJ will be going somewhere different, and they want you to go along too. This week it’s Coxy at Global Gathering – and what a recipe for disaster that is. She’s even leaving the dog and baby at home. Today Gemma was on, who is luckily a qualified first aider.
Scott: “All the worlds best DJs… and Coxy”
Chappers: “That wasn’t very nice Scott!”
Scott: “I didn’t mean it like that”
Gemma had to try and name the top 5 DJs that Sara was looking forward to seeing at the weekend, but she was unable to correctly identify enough to get her on the leader board. So with her gone, it was time to sort out a tie breaker between James and Ellie from the earlier shows. James is through to the second round, where he’ll take on tomorrow’s winner.
Big Brother Britain Strikes Again
Now yesterday Scott was talking about his flatmate being asked for ID at the age of 26 (make sure you read below for yesterday’s review). Many people were contacting the show about similar experiences. One woman was so bothered by being asked for ID to buy wine at the age of 34, she now gets her friends to go in and purchase it for her. A guy called Colin had a story about his dad who was in Milton Keynes and was asked to remove his cap, despite being 73 years of age. Diana’s dad of 64 was asked to take her cap off when he was ordering. He couldn’t hear the bar staff, and kept trying to ask for a drink. In the end they had to get the manager as he wasn’t taking it off. One guy of 21 was asked for ID just for FHM! And finally, an 81 year old was asked for ID every time he tried to buy a bottle of wine. Despite showing ID all the time, he was asked once when he didn’t have ID, and they had to get a supervisor. Welcome to Britain, Britain, Britain…
And after six o’clock there was a rather bizarre story about someone being asked for ID to buy cocktail sticks. Because obviously there’s a sensible age limit to as to when you can buy them and use them. And imagine the damage you could have if a 14 year old brought them. Let’s not even go down the road of them eating actual cheese off them!
And that led to one texter sending in this fascinating text:
“I brought some cocktail sticks from Tesco last week”
So as we all seem to be living in Big Brother Britain at the moment, we had a call from a girl who claimed her dad paid for a private eye to watch his daughter at her 18th Birthday Party. She wasn’t too sure who the guy was, she presumed he’d come with her friends, but thought nothing of it. This was until her mum accused her of smoking at her birthday party. She wasn’t sure how she knew this, and denied it, until her mother revealed the girl’s dad had actually hired a private eye to watch her!
Is your dad just like him? Did he used to be a policeman but then turned in to a murderer when he joined Eastenders?
But it’s becoming a big craze amongst parents now to have a private eye hired to watch your children. One girl reported that her dad gets a private eye to follow her in her car wherever she goes, and her dad can even remind her of how much money she has in her bank. It’s got the point where she’s trying to set up online banking to prevent him from knowing all this. When she gets home from work her dad will even know what road she took home. You know what this reminds Scott of? That dead bloke from Eastenders.
Scott: “It’s just like Johnny Allen off of Eastenders”
Chappers: “Yeah just like that… He might have even known she was going to ring in to the show. You might be on his hit list”
Scott: “You wouldn’t want to park up with her would you?”
Chappers: “What a nice way of putting it”
Also on today’s show, Scott managed to fall off his seat during the five o’clock news bulletin, much to the amusement of Chappers.
A great show jam-packed full of good banter. Don’t forget to check out the daily podcast, check out our forum, and while you’re at it, register and leave us a comment.
