Ali Plumb had almost completed the alphabet
Ali Plumb’s Radio 1 movie marathon was reaching the end of the A-to-Z challenge.
He had watched *Yes Man* for Y and was preparing to finish the alphabet before moving on to films beginning with numbers.
Scott remained fascinated by Ali’s ability to spend so much time watching movies without becoming visibly sedentary.
Ali’s answer was not exactly a fitness regime.
He had an indoor bike and sometimes sat on it.
Pedalling appeared optional.
Once the alphabet was complete, Scott and listeners suggested the next step should be One Direction: This Is Us for the number one.
Scott had an obvious personal reason.
He appears in the film very briefly.
It Was All Going Well Until became the perfect dating format
The new feature asked callers to complete one sentence:
It was all going well until…
Allison had met a man who appeared to tick every box.
Then, on the second date, he shouted at her dog.
That was enough.
She still went to dinner, ordered an enormous steak and deliberately saved some for the dog.
For Allison, the relationship had effectively ended at the front door.
Amy rescued a burger from the pavement
Amy had met somebody on a night out and the chemistry was excellent.
Numbers were exchanged.
A second date looked certain.
Then Amy bought a burger on the way home, tripped and dropped it on the ground.
She picked it up.
Dusted off the gravel.
And ate it.
Unfortunately the prospective date saw everything.
He told her it was disgusting, asked her to delete his number and never contact him.
Scott and Chris thought this was absurdly harsh.
Both said the floor-burger incident would not have put them off.
Dan’s story beat all of them
Dan met a woman on Tinder.
The messages went well.
They discovered they had grown up in the same area.
They met for drinks and got on brilliantly.
She eventually invited him back to her place.
While she went into the bathroom, Dan sat on the bed and looked around the room.
There was a photo collage on the wall.
In several pictures he recognised one of his mum’s cousins.
Dan asked how she knew “his uncle”.
The woman looked confused.
That man was her dad.
They had worked out the family tree just in time
Dan realised his Tinder date was his mother’s cousin’s daughter.
The pair were related.
The atmosphere changed immediately.
Dan tried making a joke.
It did not help.
He left very quickly.
Scott’s main reaction was relief that Dan had noticed the photos before the evening progressed any further.
The segment had begun with somebody shouting at a dog.
By the end, Radio 1 had accidentally become a genealogy service.
Ali became quizmaster
Ali also took over Don’t Look It Up for the day.
After spending the week having films chosen for him, he finally got to control part of the programme himself.
The episode had effectively turned into a crossover between disastrous romance and Radio 1’s movie department.
