Sandra Mills was getting vaccinated
Scott’s mum Sandra had her vaccine appointment.
The news was both reassuring and strangely exciting.
Scott and Chris had heard that vaccination centres were running with impressive efficiency and thanked the volunteers and health workers involved.
Then Scott focused on the question only he would ask:
what should somebody wear for the jab?
Vaccine day had become an outing
Sandra was not worried about the injection.
She was treating the appointment as somewhere to go.
After months of limited reasons to leave home, even a vaccination centre had acquired the feeling of a day out.
Scott imagined the process eventually becoming like a theme-park ride, complete with an automatic photograph at the exact moment the needle went in.
Pay a fiver for the souvenir.
Give the money to the NHS.
He genuinely thought there might be a business model in it.
Listeners who had already received the vaccine began reporting their chosen outfits.
Black jeans and a polo shirt was one recommendation.
The important practical rule seemed to be sleeves which rolled up easily.
Granny Tinder preferred Barack Obama
Lynette returned and the conversation drifted back to famous people she found attractive.
Scott reminded her of photographs of a young Joe Biden.
Lynette had forgotten the entire discussion.
Given the choice now, she was much clearer:
Barack Obama.
That led to one of Scott’s recurring questions about ageing.
As people get older, does the age range they find attractive naturally move with them?
Lynette’s answer suggested yes.
Chris wondered whether that meant his old glamour calendars would eventually need to age alongside him.
A paramedic profile scored well
Granny Tinder then returned to Zofia’s actual matches.
Kevin, 26, was a paramedic whose bio joked that he was hot enough to stop somebody’s heart but trained to restart it.
Lynette liked him.
The emergency-services job helped.
Scott pointed out that having a paramedic in the family could be useful, before Chris admitted he had once tried to persuade his paramedic brother to give him a drip for a hangover.
The request had not succeeded.
Ali Plumb made Bangers a three-way fight
Ali’s movie marathon had taken over enough of the week that he was invited into Bangers.
Instead of the normal Scott-versus-Chris contest, Ali brought a third film-related choice.
The caller now had to pick between three presenters.
Scott immediately discovered he liked Bangers less when the odds of winning dropped from one in two to one in three.
Love Island memories entered the quiz
Don’t Look It Up also used a Love Island: What Happened Next? round.
Scott and Chris had to remember couples and storylines after the programme had moved on.
Reality television can feel all-consuming during a series.
The quiz demonstrated how quickly the details fade once the villa closes.
