11 February 2021: Dickie Dribble celebrated his birthday with 9,000 litres of cider

Dickie Dribble was still one of lockdown’s happiest discoveries

During the first lockdown, Funny Business had introduced Scott and Chris to a cider maker whose company name immediately became unforgettable:

Dickie’s Dribble.

Owner Dickie had one of the most infectious laughs on the radio and the show kept ringing him simply because he cheered everybody up.

Months later, somebody told the team it was his birthday.

Scott and Chris called without warning.

The laugh returned almost immediately.

The pandemic had left Dickie with a lot of cider

Dickie explained that pub closures had left him with roughly 2,000 litres of cider from the previous year.

He had then made another 7,000 litres.

That meant around 9,000 litres potentially sitting around waiting for life to reopen.

Dickie joked that he had enough to swim in.

Scott and Chris were reassured to hear that, despite everything, he sounded exactly as positive as before.

The call was less an interview than a check-in with somebody the show had adopted as a lockdown friend.

The Four Lads judged Bristol and Guernsey

The Four Lads in Jeans returned to score listeners’ dream nights out.

Previous towns had discovered that a weak pitch could damage local pride immediately.

This time Bristol received plenty of love.

Guernsey also entered the competition.

The lads weighed up the pubs, clubs, food stops and whatever local detail the listener thought would make the perfect post-lockdown night.

Scott remained fascinated by how ordinary nightlife had become something people spoke about with the excitement of a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Lucky Underwear continued Chris’s education

The Valentine’s-week lingerie game returned.

Chris again had to navigate the vocabulary of women’s underwear and identify items from names or descriptions.

The more specific the terminology became, the less confident he sounded.

Scott and the team had discovered that asking a man to discuss lingerie with complete seriousness created exactly the awkwardness they wanted.

Hoary Pufflegs invaded Don’t Look It Up

The quiz included wonderfully strange bird names.

Hoary Puffleg sounded fictional enough to belong in a comedy sketch.

It is a real hummingbird.

Scott and Chris were forced to work through more animal names which looked as though somebody had invented them purely to make a radio quiz difficult.
