Chris had noticed Scott’s Strictly voice
Clara Amfo’s *Strictly Come Dancing* partnership was being discussed around Radio 1.
That brought back one of Chris’s long-running observations about Scott.
Scott changed around different groups of people.
Chris said the normal Scott arrived at work casually, drifted into the studio and spoke in the voice everybody recognised.
Then somebody from *Strictly* appeared.
Suddenly his posture improved.
His vocabulary became warmer and more theatrical.
Everything was “fabulous” and “wonderful”.
Scott denied performing a different personality.
Chris was convinced.
Scott fired back with Chris’s football personality
The accusation did not stay one-sided for long.
Scott argued that Chris behaved exactly the same way around football people.
Chris became more laddish, talked differently and appeared far more eager to join conversations.
The pair accepted that almost everybody adapts slightly depending on who they are with.
Some people have a telephone voice.
Some have a work voice.
Scott apparently had a Strictly voice.
Chris had football mode.
Blow Your Own Trumpet celebrated the smallest possible wins
Tuesday meant another chance for listeners to receive excessive recognition for ordinary competence.
Nikki had managed to unmute herself correctly every single time she spoke during an online work meeting.
Given the number of Zoom calls punctuated by “you’re on mute”, the show considered this genuinely trumpet-worthy.
Anna had cycled down a steep hill while carrying a full cup of coffee without spilling it.
Another listener, aged 28, had gone to the tip by herself for the first time.
Until then, taking rubbish to the tip had apparently always required her dad.
Scott and Chris awarded each achievement exactly the same ridiculous fanfare.
One Bangers caller lived in a very different version of 2020
During Bangers, the show reached a listener living somewhere with virtually no active coronavirus restrictions.
The contrast with Britain was striking.
The caller could go to the pub and live far more normally because the local area had become effectively COVID-free.
Scott and Chris were fascinated by how exotic ordinary social life now sounded.
Going into a pub without thinking about tiers, masks or household rules had become almost unimaginable.
Don’t Look It Up went through number ones from the past
The quiz included songs which had been number one on that exact date in different years.
That produced a mixture of records Scott instantly knew and others which seemed to have disappeared despite once being the biggest song in the country.
The round also reopened old pop memories including Sugababes and Sak Noel.
As with Live Lounges That Time Forgot, the fun came from discovering that chart success is no guarantee a song will remain in anybody’s head.
