7 April 2016: Greg James makes an extremely wet return to Innuendo Bingo

Classic Greg James

A listener introduced as Greg James’s number-one fan could not identify anything she would change about him. She had ignored the other returning Bingo editions and waited specifically for Greg, having never seen him play before.

Greg soon demonstrated why Scott called him a classic guest. He faced Chris through another collection of accidental radio and television innuendo, including one of Caroline Martin’s recurring studio problems on BBC WM. The water came so quickly that Greg’s supposedly perfect image lasted only a few clips, producing what the show considered one of the strongest games of the comeback week.

Chris returns to the 1990s

While waiting for a replacement smartphone, Chris had bought a cheap temporary handset with extremely limited text storage. He then wrote important phone numbers on a scrap of paper and carried it in his pocket.

Scott pointed out that this could include recognisable contacts and that Chris was almost certain to lose it. Chris could not find any obvious A-list names on the list, but admitted that deleting messages to make space and manually copying numbers had returned him to the 1990s.

A comeback in Bangers

Chris needed to recover after several disputed choices in Battle of the Bangers. Listeners had begun questioning whether either presenter fully understood the format, but his selection finally earned a more convincing response and restored some confidence.

The show also worried that Radio 1’s new weekly release day might expose a shortage of music. After repeatedly joking that songs were running out, Scott and Chris treated Thursday as the last chance to clear old material before the first full New Music Friday.
