25 September 2008: Dear Scott tackled a boyfriend who had given up wearing pants

Dear Scott received a message from Hong Kong

A listener following the programme from Hong Kong wanted help translating some of Chappers’ vocabulary, including phrases such as “soft lad” and references which made sense to regular listeners but not necessarily to somebody hearing them from overseas. The fan-site world around the programme helped carry those in-jokes much further than the studio.

One boyfriend had apparently abandoned underwear

The bigger problem came from a listener whose boyfriend had stopped wearing pants for around a year and a half. Scott and the team immediately began examining every practical consequence of going commando, from airport security to tanning salons and the question of what counted as acceptable clothing in public.

What’s Occurring? returned to pop memories

The show also played with Spice Girls memories, including a father being questioned about a gig and confusion around the group’s nicknames. Hole in the Wall and Vanessa Feltz entered the wider conversation, but the underwear letter remained the day’s defining dilemma because it was both completely ordinary and impossible for the team to leave alone.
