12 December 2016: Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt trade playground insults

One listener saves her best-of-year buzzer

Gemma has spent 2016 waiting for something worthy of her imaginary “best thing of the year” buzzer. December has arrived and she still cannot decide whether any moment has justified pressing it, creating the danger that a carefully rationed reaction will go unused.

Scott understands the problem because social media describes several things every day as the best ever. He advises Gemma to stop preserving the moment indefinitely, and the arrival of the new Playground Insults gives her an obvious final candidate.

Hollywood abandons politeness

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt sit face to face and insult each other until somebody laughs or runs out of material. Jennifer questions Chris’s intelligence and acting ability, while Chris attacks her appearance, personality and the reaction to her films.

The actors repeatedly shock each other by finding a harsher line just when the contest appears finished. Jennifer’s enthusiasm keeps the exchange moving, and Chris admits afterwards that the game was both horrible and enjoyable. Scott and Chris regard the finished film as one of the strongest versions of the format.

Christmas Eve becomes six hours of Bangers

A new week of Bangers begins while Scott assembles the playlist for the Christmas Eve special. The programme will run from 1pm until 7pm and use many of the winning choices collected during the year, with a limited amount of actual Christmas music.

The Whooovent Calendar continues behind the main event. Its daily forgotten faces and sounds now provide a countdown through the final two broadcasting weeks before Christmas.
