Radio 1 joined How It Started, How It’s Going
The social-media trend How It Started / How It’s Going was everywhere.
Scott and Chris decided their own careers deserved the treatment.
Old audio was pulled out showing how they had sounded when they first appeared on Radio 1.
That immediately exposed the slightly artificial early-radio voice presenters sometimes adopt when they are still trying to work out what they are supposed to sound like.
The “how it’s going” half was considerably more familiar.
Years later, the polished presenter voice had been replaced by two people willing to spend national radio discussing burps, FIFA and whether they would dump one another in an imaginary relationship.
The campaign to get partners off FIFA escalated
The previous day’s FIFA Widow conversation produced more extreme listener methods.
One woman admitted she had pretended to slip over in the shower and painted on a bruise with makeup purely to get her partner away from the game.
Scott and Chris thought this had crossed well beyond a normal attempt to gain attention.
Jess and Gary’s story continued to hang over the feature, with listeners suggesting increasingly elaborate ways of beating a video game for somebody’s attention.
Scott and Chris became Maisie Peters and JP Saxe
The show’s Tune of the Week was Maisie Peters and JP Saxe’s *Maybe Don’t*.
Scott and Chris became fascinated by the chemistry of the duet.
The singers sounded as though there might be romantic history underneath the performance even though Maisie later described the actual relationship as platonic.
That gave Scott an idea.
Could he and Chris sing the song and create the same tension?
Listeners heard a completely imaginary affair
The answer, according to messages, was disturbingly yes.
Scott and Chris were not especially concerned with singing the correct notes.
The goal was to sound as though there were years of unresolved feelings between them.
Listeners said the result sounded creepy.
Others thought it genuinely suggested Scott and Chris had once had a fling, with some deciding Chris sounded like the one who had ended it.
That prompted a new argument.
If Scott and Chris really had been a couple, which one would have dumped the other?
Chris thought Scott was needier.
Scott was unconvinced.
Blow Your Own Trumpet celebrated adulting
Tuesday’s trumpet included some unusually grown-up achievements.
Matt had moved into a flat with broken heating, watched YouTube tutorials, repressurised the boiler and bled the radiators.
Scott awarded extra credit because he had recently managed the same thing himself.
Katie had been given money and, rather than immediately spending it on Amazon, opened a savings account and put the whole amount away.
Laura had learned how to raise one eyebrow after repeatedly practising in a mirror while working from home.
Another listener changed the bedsheets in the middle of the night after leaving them for what she admitted was around six months.
Every one received the fanfare.
That was the rule.
If you were disproportionately proud, Radio 1 would be proud with you.
