A dog became the relationship counsellor
The previous day’s discussion of strange couple habits produced Andre.
He and his fiancée Annie sometimes communicated through a voice they used for their dog, including when one of them was annoyed with the other.
Andre said the dog voice could soften an argument and make things less confrontational.
Scott thought this sounded ridiculous enough to require proof, so they rang Annie.
She immediately recognised what Andre had told them and confirmed that the voice really was part of their relationship.
Scott and Chris concluded that the dog had effectively become an imaginary couples counsellor.
Chris went to St James’s Palace
Chris was away from the studio for part of the show because he had been invited to St James’s Palace to present Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards.
He had spent the journey wondering which royal he might meet and later reported that people at the event appeared to believe Scott had completed a Gold Award himself.
Scott insisted this was completely untrue: he had presented awards before, but had never earned one.
The Who Game went fully retro
With Chris out of the studio, Scott revived the Who Game.
Callers had to throw out increasingly nostalgic references until the alarm ended the round.
Suggestions included Gladiators, crimped hair, holding a mobile phone in the air to find a signal, Safeway supermarkets and television presenters warning viewers to look away if they did not want to know a football result.
As usual, listeners then immediately corrected Scott by pointing out several supposedly obsolete things were still very much in use.
