Prague did not have to be a lads’ holiday

Scott had spent the weekend in Prague and returned determined to challenge one of Chris’s assumptions.

Chris associated places such as Prague and Kavos with full-on group holidays, beer bikes and the kind of trips they had taken together in the past.

Scott’s visit had been completely different.

He ate Czech food, went swimming, took a boat trip and generally treated the city like somewhere a person could simply relax.

Chris found the whole idea slightly unsettling.

Scott was apparently visiting classic party destinations and behaving like a grown-up.

The programme widened the argument to other destinations with reputations built around nightlife.

Could Kavos become a family holiday?

Could a former lads’ destination simply become a normal city break once somebody got older?

Scott insisted the answer was yes.

Donald Trump needed a haircut

The US president was in Britain for his state visit.

That meant impressionist Luke Kempner had unusually useful work.

Scott wanted Luke’s Donald Trump to make a very practical call.

If the president was meeting the Queen, surely he would want his hair looking its best.

Luke phoned a real hairdresser in character and tried to book an appointment.

The stylist patiently discussed availability while “Donald” explained he needed somebody capable of handling a particularly important client.

The show pushed the call towards highlights, the presidential hairstyle and whether a suitably high-level appointment could be arranged.

Chris loved how calmly the person on the other end dealt with a caller who sounded unmistakably like Donald Trump.

Ask Me Anything found Leslie Scott

The day’s Ask Me Anything produced somebody Scott and Chris regarded as almost impossibly impressive.

Leslie Scott introduced herself as the inventor of Jenga.

Scott had assumed the game had existed for so long it was almost ancient.

Leslie explained that she developed it from a wooden-block game played with her family and eventually brought it to market.

The title came from Swahili.

Scott immediately began treating her like the inventor of a fundamental part of childhood.

He also wanted to know whether Leslie ever used the fact socially.

Did she ever walk into a bar and say she invented Jenga?

Leslie said she had tried telling somebody once and they did not believe her.

Chris thought that was exactly the problem.

Claiming your mother invented Jenga sounded like the kind of lie somebody would tell on a night out.

Sustainability mattered too

Leslie explained that the wood used for the game needed to be sourced responsibly.

Given how many Jenga sets had been sold, she was conscious of the amount of timber involved.

Scott joked that nobody wanted the inventor of Jenga remembered for wiping out a forest.

Leslie agreed.

The interview left the presenters searching for future inventors they could speak to.

Ask Me Anything had moved from plane lickers and record holders to somebody responsible for one of the world’s best-known games.

Gemini’s dad reviewed Love Island

The new series of Love Island was beginning that night.

Radio 1 returned to Gemini, who had previously applied unsuccessfully for the programme.

This time, her dad Simon joined.

Scott and Chris wanted a parent’s assessment of the new male contestants.

If Gemini had made it into the villa, which of them would Simon have approved of?

The descriptions became exactly as uncomfortable as expected once a father was being asked to assess potential partners from television clips.

The feature neatly captured the start of Love Island season.

By June, the programme would be talking about the villa almost every day.
