4 June 2019: The Drake Curse returned as Radio 1 tried to book Trump into a Blackpool castle

The Drake Curse had struck again

Scott and Chris returned to the online theory that Drake brought bad luck to sportspeople and teams he supported or appeared with.

A listener had heard “Nice for What” and then immediately experienced something going wrong.

That was enough to reopen the case.

Other listeners had their own cursed songs.

One person associated Drake with two break-ups immediately before concerts.

Another blamed a particular song for illness.

The show also revisited Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, remembering the period when it spent weeks at number one during an unusually wet summer.

Scott was perfectly happy to turn coincidence into a curse if the story was good enough.

Gemini’s dad became a Love Island pundit

Monday had introduced Gemini’s dad Simon to the new Love Island cast.

Tuesday continued the experiment.

Gemini had applied to be on the show but had not been selected.

Scott and Chris therefore asked Simon which contestants he would have been comfortable seeing his daughter coupled with.

Simon’s reactions became almost like football analysis.

Appearance, confidence and first impressions were all judged from a parental perspective.

The presenters enjoyed how different the villa looked when viewed not by a potential contestant but by somebody’s dad.

Chris considered eyebrow tattoos

The programme also discussed cosmetic decisions which sounded useful until somebody imagined the long-term consequences.

Chris considered whether tattooed eyebrows could solve the problem of grooming them permanently.

Scott was not convinced.

The conversation moved into celebrity brows and the danger of following a trend which might look completely different a few years later.

Chris liked the convenience.

Scott liked having the option to change his face.

Donald Trump tried another phone call

Luke Kempner returned with the Donald Trump voice.

The previous day’s hairdresser call had gone well.

This time the president wanted accommodation.

Scott chose the Castle Hotel in Blackpool.

The joke was that despite the grand name, the place being called was not the sort of castle Donald Trump might expect on a state visit.

Luke still approached it like a presidential booking.

He asked about staying overnight, security and whether the establishment was suitable for somebody travelling at the highest level.

The person answering did their best to deal with the strange request.

Scott loved that Donald Trump was genuinely in Britain meeting the Queen while Radio 1’s version of him was trying to book Blackpool.

Cheryl was coming tomorrow

The show ended by looking ahead to Superfan Steve.

Chris would once again hide in another studio, pretend to be a fan called Steve and answer questions about a celebrity using the answer sheet in front of him.

The next target was Cheryl.

Scott already thought it could be one of the best versions of the prank.

He had no idea quite how much she was going to laugh.
