Scott’s work-experience offers became real
Chris’s claim that Scott could not survive an ordinary job had produced genuine invitations.
One chip shop in Porthcawl offered to put Scott to work for a couple of hours.
He would begin in the potato room and potentially graduate to serving customers under pressure.
Scott then admitted something which did not help his case.
He had never peeled a potato.
He had peeled carrots.
Apparently that was different enough to concern everyone.
Other businesses offered their own trial shifts.
Scott was beginning to realise Chris had accidentally created a feature which could force him into actual work.
Simone already knew Concorde was involved
Where Do You Think They Were? introduced Simone and her mum Eliana.
Simone had one piece of information already.
She believed her conception had something to do with Concorde.
That was enough for Scott and Chris to declare the story potentially the most glamorous in the feature’s history.
Eliana then explained how she and Simone’s father ended up aboard the aircraft.
Engine oil won them the trip
The couple entered a competition connected with buying engine oil.
The prize was extraordinary.
A day trip to Paris.
Two nights at a top London hotel.
And the return journey on Concorde.
Scott was already impressed before the conception part had begun.
On board, passengers were served champagne.
Eliana remembered drinking around six glasses.
The atmosphere was celebratory.
The couple were also able to visit or see the cockpit area.
Then Eliana had another idea.
The toilet was incredibly small
Concorde’s toilet was tiny.
That did not stop them.
Eliana suggested they try to have sex inside it.
Scott and Chris kept returning to the physical dimensions.
The aircraft itself was travelling at roughly twice the speed of sound.
Simone’s parents were attempting to manoeuvre inside one of the smallest rooms on board.
According to Eliana, they managed it.
When they emerged, other passengers appeared to be smiling knowingly.
The classiest Where Do You Think They Were?
Scott declared Simone a Concorde toilet baby.
Compared with Travelodges, hedges, Morris Marinas and footstools, the story was undeniably glamorous.
Simone did not necessarily see it that way.
She now had an image of her parents inside an aircraft toilet attached permanently to any mention of Concorde.
Scott also admitted he disliked plane toilets because of the violent flushing noise.
Simone had acquired a much bigger reason to avoid thinking about them.
Stark History went to Southend
The show also prepared a Stark History of Britain guide for a listener visiting Southend-on-Sea.
Chris assembled local history, nightlife and attractions into his usual mix of research and theatrical narration.
The guide mentioned the funicular railway, Adventure Island, local pubs and venues including Chinnerys.
The following day’s Extra Show would revisit the response from people who actually knew Southend.
