14 February 2019: Beccy learned she was conceived in a steamy Morris Marina

Scott and Chris revealed the cards they had written

Valentine’s Day arrived with the dangerous card experiment completed.

Scott had written the message sent to Chris’s wife.

Chris had written the one for Scott’s partner.

Scott’s version was an intentionally suggestive poem which mixed declarations of love with a joke about Chris’s body.

Chris’s card for Scott’s partner included a deliberately bad poem involving Donald Trump and celebrity lists.

Both presenters had signed the messages as though they had written them themselves.

They agreed the experiment had produced cards neither would normally have dared send.

Beccy’s dad enjoyed the assignment far too much

The Valentine’s edition of Where Do You Think They Were? featured Beccy and her dad Mike.

Mike immediately sounded like somebody who had been waiting years for an opportunity to tell the story publicly.

He and Beccy’s mum had been young and living in a small Wiltshire village.

Her father was religious and disapproved of the relationship, meaning privacy was difficult.

Valentine’s Day began in the local pub.

Mike had bought jewellery.

The pair dressed up.

The romantic setting then became much less glamorous.

The Morris Marina entered the story

On the drive home, the couple stopped in a familiar lay-by or gateway.

Mike was driving a Morris Marina.

The car had two doors and the front seats had to be pushed forward to reach the back.

Mike remembered this very clearly.

He and Beccy’s mum climbed into the rear.

The windows steamed up badly enough for him to compare the scene with *Titanic*.

The car had no modern air conditioning to rescue the situation.

Beccy said she had hoped her origin story might involve more class.

Instead, she had a Morris Marina in a lay-by.

Mike considered this perfectly romantic.

“A turnip for the lady”

During the pub section, Scott imagined the old tradition of somebody approaching a couple to sell a rose.

In the rural setting, the show joked that the equivalent might have been offering a turnip for the lady.

The phrase stuck.

It had almost nothing to do with the actual conception.

It became the title anyway.

The Essex snake became Will

The animal-naming saga also reached its conclusion.

The unnamed python in Essex was officially named Will after the man Charlotte and Maria had discovered was dating them both.

Radio 1 now had a real snake carrying the name of a listener’s cheating ex.

Another listener, Mary, then offered a new unnamed animal, a large cockroach, so the revenge format could continue.

Jamie proposed to Lauren live on Radio 1

Valentine’s Day also contained one of the month’s sweetest moments.

Lauren believed she was taking part in Bangers.

Scott explained there was a third song choice.

That choice belonged to her partner Jamie.

Jamie came on the line, thanked Lauren for the things she had done for him and then asked her to marry him live on Radio 1.

Lauren was genuinely shocked.

She said yes.

Jamie planned to drive straight to her workplace with the ring.

A day dominated by cheating exes and embarrassing parent stories ended with an actual engagement.
