Chris was off sick
Wednesday began without Chris.
Scott called him at home and immediately became suspicious about whether the illness was severe enough to justify absence.
Chris insisted he had felt much worse earlier and was genuinely unwell.
Scott reminded him that Radio 1 presenters posting on social media while off sick could attract commentary.
Chris said he was not doing that.
The exchange ended with Chris sounding increasingly annoyed that a routine sick day had become an interrogation.
Charlotte and Maria had completed the operation
The much bigger story was the previous evening’s confrontation.
Charlotte and Maria had discovered they were both dating the same man and agreed to meet him together.
Maria went to the bar first.
She deliberately placed him in a seat with his back to the entrance.
Charlotte waited for the signal.
Then she walked in.
She greeted Maria warmly, kissed her on both cheeks and sat down at the same table.
The man’s face changed immediately.
He still tried to explain it away
Even with both women sitting in front of him, the man initially tried to describe the meeting with Maria as business.
Charlotte explained that she and Maria had already compared messages.
Maria said he had explicitly asked her to be his girlfriend.
His attempt to deny the relationship made the situation worse.
Charlotte reached for Maria’s red wine.
She threw it over his suit.
The entire bar became the audience
Charlotte then stood and addressed the room.
She apologised to the other customers for interrupting their evening and told them the man had been cheating on both women.
One person applauded.
Charlotte and Maria picked up their bags and left together.
They went for champagne.
Maria confirmed the story was every bit as dramatic as Charlotte described.
For Scott, the most satisfying part was that the two women had become friends instead of turning the other woman into the enemy.
The man had lost both.
James Acaster and Josh Widdicombe played Innuendo Bingo
At 3pm, James Acaster and Josh Widdicombe arrived for the second new Innuendo Bingo.
The feature had only just returned and was already back into its familiar rhythm of new clips, large amounts of water and celebrities discovering ordinary BBC phrases became impossible once taken out of context.
Listeners had been sending new clips at speed.
Scott treated that as proof the audience had immediately resumed its old role as the feature’s unofficial research department.
Bamboleo preserved the snake story too
Bamboleo Wednesday included a clip from Charlotte’s confrontation among the archive moments requested by listeners.
A relationship disaster which had unfolded across two days was already becoming show history before Wednesday had finished.
