22 January 2019: Sigrid raced Shazam and then sang Journey karaoke

Scott was worried they had offended Sigrid

Sigrid arrived at Radio 1 as Scott’s Tune of the Week artist.

Before she came in, listeners reminded Scott and Chris that they had apparently annoyed her at a previous Big Weekend.

Neither presenter could remember exactly what they had done.

That made the reunion more nerve-racking than it needed to be.

Sigrid showed no sign of holding a grudge.

The atmosphere was completely normal.

Scott and Chris were relieved.

Could Sigrid beat Shazam?

Scott had prepared a new music game.

He played a song simultaneously to Sigrid and the Shazam app.

Sigrid had to identify it before the phone did.

The first record was Adele’s “Hometown Glory.”

Sigrid recognised Adele but not the song quickly enough.

Shazam won.

She recovered with George Ezra’s “Paradise” and Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss”, naming them before the app.

Stormzy’s “Shut Up” caught her out.

Then came Sigrid’s own “Don’t Kill My Vibe”, which she obviously knew immediately.

The result was not a clean victory.

It was good enough for Scott.

Karaoke was becoming the show’s January obsession

Sigrid had previously appeared in karaoke videos, so Scott and Chris pushed her towards Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

The song’s famously long opening forced everyone to wait before the chorus arrived.

Sigrid sang anyway.

The studio joined in.

The performance added another chapter to a month in which Lewis Capaldi had already turned karaoke into a recurring strand.

Thursday would become a proper karaoke night

Scott and Chris also confirmed that they had hired a small karaoke bar for Thursday.

Lewis Capaldi would join them for an Instagram Live session.

The plan had grown directly from Lewis unexpectedly singing during his earlier studio visit.

What started as a spontaneous Miley Cyrus cover was becoming a full Radio 1 night out.

Marie Kondo remained everywhere

Scott also continued discussing his new tidying obsession and the attempts to reorganise his home.

His mum had joined him in folding clothes using the Kondo method.

Chris found the image of Scott and his mum reorganising underwear together slightly tragic.

Listeners were already copying it.

January’s two defining hobbies were apparently tidying and karaoke.
