Superfan Steve returned

After Anne-Marie survived the first edition of Superstar versus Superfan, Scott and Chris found another willing victim.

This time it was Charli XCX.

Charli was told Radio 1 had searched through her fans and found somebody who knew an extraordinary amount about her.

That person was supposedly Steve.

In reality, Chris was elsewhere with the answers in front of him.

Scott asked questions about Charli’s career, childhood and personal favourites.

Steve repeatedly buzzed in first.

The more obscure the questions became, the more uncomfortable the situation felt.

At one point Charli openly wondered how this stranger could possibly know so much.

That was exactly the reaction Scott and Chris wanted.

When the reveal finally came, Charli discovered there was no unsettling superfan at all.

It was simply Chris being awkward on purpose.

She took the joke well, although Scott admitted the feature was becoming riskier each time they used it with somebody who knew the programme less well.

Local news found Elvis the ASBO parrot

The local-news feature continued after Harriet the donkey and Gulliver the Jersey seagull.

Listener Nick introduced Elvis, a parrot which had apparently become such a nuisance that the story was described using the language of an ASBO.

Scott was fascinated by the idea of anti-social-behaviour action being discussed in relation to a bird.

The transcript records the story as involving swearing, stealing or damaging people’s belongings and creating enough trouble to become genuine local news.

The parrot was moved away.

Eventually it apparently returned.

For Scott, the details mattered less than the headline.

“Elvis the ASBO parrot” sounded exactly like the kind of story the feature existed to find.

One Pound Fish Man had made a second Michael Jackson song

The show then returned to one of its favourite strange pieces of music.

One Pound Fish Man, known for “One Pound Fish”, had also recorded a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Scott and Chris already loved the original, very sparse version.

Then they discovered somebody had turned it into a fully produced record.

There were instruments.

There was a guitar solo.

There was even a choir.

The result sounded vastly more dramatic than the original tribute.

Scott could not believe it had taken the programme so long to find it.

The video had already attracted a substantial number of views.

What began as one of Bamboleo Wednesday’s most requested oddities had suddenly become something resembling a stadium rock production.

Christmas parties were already stressing Scott

The calendar had barely moved into November, but Scott was already dreading the annual run of Christmas drinks.

Every group of friends, work contacts and acquaintances seemed to suggest “we must have Christmas drinks”.

Scott knew perfectly well there were not enough evenings in December to do all of them.

The first invitations had begun arriving.

So had the guilt.

After a show involving a fake superfan, an ASBO parrot and One Pound Fish Man’s Michael Jackson epic, Christmas-party administration still managed to be the thing Scott found most stressful.
