The festive bake burned Chris again
Before the major listener stories began, Chris repeated one of his annual mistakes.
The festive bakes had returned.
He bought one immediately.
It was extremely hot.
Scott pointed out that this happened every year.
Chris became excited that Christmas had effectively arrived inside pastry, bit into it too quickly and burned his mouth.
He knew the filling retained heat.
He still forgot.
Scott compared it with a fast-food apple pie containing apple-flavoured lava.
Imogen boarded the Love Train
Where Do You Think They Were? returned with Imogen, who was turning 26.
Her mum Carmy was ready to explain everything.
The story began at Hartlepool station.
Imogen’s parents had been there for her father’s 18th birthday celebrations and were travelling all the way back to Cornwall.
It was a long journey.
Somewhere around Darlington, the couple became increasingly affectionate.
The train was busy.
They left their seats and went into the toilet.
Scott immediately became stuck on the practical problem.
Train toilets were not exactly spacious.
Carmy had an answer.
She had been a dancer.
She was “a little bit bendy”.
Scott and Chris completely lost composure.
Bendy Carmy ignored the knocking
The couple were inside long enough for people outside to notice.
Carmy remembered knocks on the toilet door.
That did not immediately end what was happening.
Afterwards they returned to their seats and spent the rest of the journey cuddling and doing the crossword.
Imogen had never heard any of this.
She was now officially, in Scott’s terminology, a train baby.
The birthday shout-out included messages from Radio 1 and Strictly names, but the phrase everybody remembered was still “Bendy Carmy”.
Listeners called afterwards to say the feature had made them look differently at every train they passed.
You could never know what was happening inside.
Nicole returned from Amsterdam
The programme then caught up with Nicole from Pontypridd, who had previously never been on a plane.
Radio 1 had spent weeks giving her advice before boyfriend Liam took her to Amsterdam for her birthday.
Some of that advice had been deliberately unreliable.
Nicole had once believed there might literally be traffic lights in the sky for aeroplanes.
She had now flown successfully, loved Amsterdam and said she wanted to travel more.
That should have been the end of the storyline.
Scott and Chris had another assignment.
Nicole had to interview Jess Glynne
The pair asked whether Nicole would interview Jess Glynne for Radio 1.
Nicole initially thought they were joking.
She became increasingly panicked as she realised the request was genuine.
Jess was a major pop star.
Nicole described herself simply as somebody from South Wales who did not know what she would say.
Scott and Chris promised to help prepare questions.
They would speak to her again before the interview and talk her through everything.
Nicole’s stated objective quickly became even more ambitious.
Perhaps she and Jess could become friends.
Radio 1 had taken a listener who had never flown and, within weeks, turned her into a prospective celebrity interviewer.
