2 July 2018: Chris got a free taxi from a listener after tweeting for help

Chris was missing, but his weekend caught up with him

Chris was off sick, leaving Scott on his own for Monday’s programme.

That did not stop Chris becoming one of the main subjects.

Listener Rob called to explain that he had seen Chris tweeting after a wedding because he could not get a taxi. Rob was not a taxi driver, but a friend tagged him in the post and he offered to help.

Chris messaged him privately to check that the offer was genuine.

Rob drove over, collected him and took him back to where he was staying.

The journey was only around five to ten minutes, but Chris had clearly enjoyed the wedding and turned the lift into a small carpool-karaoke session.

Scott discovered another detail he particularly enjoyed.

Chris had deleted the original public tweet while he was in Rob’s car, apparently reducing the chances that Scott would ever see what he had done.

Rob said Chris had talked about paying him.

He never actually did.

Instead, the driver went home with a photograph of himself and Chris.

Scott considered that excellent evidence for future use.

Love Island’s pre-kiss chat made everyone uncomfortable

The show also became fixated on the strange conversation which happens immediately before a first kiss.

Love Island had provided several examples where two people clearly knew a kiss was about to happen but still felt compelled to fill the silence first.

Scott played the awkward gaps and declarations before contestants finally leaned in.

Listeners supplied their own versions.

One woman admitted that, on a Tinder date, she had secretly checked the app while the man was in the toilet. When he returned and suggested looking back at their earliest messages, she realised he would see that she had just been active.

Her solution was to kiss him before he could check.

Another listener remembered a man telling her he wanted to kiss her but that she was “too far away”, forcing her to move closer and solve the problem herself.

Scott thought the preamble could be almost more memorable than the kiss.

Britain had overdone the sun

The prolonged hot weather also produced a parade of sunburn confessions.

A young farmer had bright shoulders after spending time working outside without enough protection.

Another listener had bright pink ankles.

Gemma said she had burned her eyelids after spending a day looking down at a book.

Kate admitted sunbathing without sunscreen while taking advantage of a private garden and described herself as burned “EBTF” — everything but the face.

Scott used the stories to repeat his usual warning about proper SPF.

The warm weather was enjoyable.

The photographs being sent to Radio 1 suggested a significant number of listeners had treated it like a competition.
