20 April 2018: Arsène Wenger’s departure stopped the show as Shaggy arrived like royalty

Brogan’s week finally reached an ending

The show looked back at the increasingly complicated Ghostbusters story.

Brogan had been ghosted after around eight dates.

The ghost’s best friend Liam then came on air to explain his side.

Brogan and Liam started messaging.

Brogan admitted she liked him.

Finally Liam was asked whether he wanted a date.

He decided it could become too messy because of his friendship with the original ghost, and Brogan agreed that leaving it as friendship was probably the sensible answer.

After four days of twists, the programme had somehow moved from ghosting to matchmaking and then back to a group drink.

Chelsea’s secret move-in plan had worked

A listener called Chelsea returned almost exactly a year after first speaking to the show.

Back then, she had described a stealth strategy for moving into her boyfriend’s home.

Because they lived far apart, she began leaving small belongings behind on visits.

A toothbrush was an obvious starting point.

Clothes and other items could follow gradually.

The trick, she said, was to be discreet enough that the accumulation did not look like an official move.

A year later, Chelsea had an update.

She had moved in properly.

It had taken close to a year, but the gradual plan had eventually become an actual shared home.

Scott remembered another part of Chelsea’s old call too.

She had once described watching television with her parents when, suspiciously early in the evening, they would begin performing exaggerated yawns and announce they were going to bed.

Chelsea had interpreted the routine as a way of getting some private adult time.

Now she no longer lived with them, she was willing to revisit the story, although she was well aware that her parents had friends who had heard the original broadcast.

Why did Shaggy need five people carriers?

At Broadcasting House, Scott noticed activity usually associated with somebody extremely important.

There were multiple blacked-out people carriers.

Staff were waiting around the loading bay.

The entrance was being used in the kind of way Scott associated with politicians or huge stars.

He asked who was arriving.

The answer was Shaggy.

Scott’s reaction was disbelief rather than disrespect. He knew Shaggy was famous, but the scale of the operation looked like the arrival of pop royalty.

“Shaggy’s bigger than you know” became the explanation.

Wenger out, eventually

Then came real breaking football news.

Arsène Wenger had announced that he would leave Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years as manager.

Chris understood immediately why it mattered.

Scott understood that it was important because he had spent years hearing angry Arsenal supporters shouting about Wenger on television.

Pronunciation became the first obstacle.

Scott repeatedly drifted towards “Wanger” before being corrected back to Wenger.

He remembered the familiar “Wenger out” arguments but could not pretend to have followed the football deeply enough to deliver a conventional tribute.

Instead, the news became a live lesson in why Arsenal supporters had spent so long divided over their manager.

Scott considered going out to collect public reaction despite knowing he was probably the least qualified person in the building to conduct an informed Arsenal debate.

Three-way Bangers brought Maya into the competition

Maya Jama joined Scott and Chris for a three-way version of Bangers.

The normal contest became more chaotic with a third presenter making a case for a track, and the show used it as one of the lighter parts of a Friday dominated by relationship callbacks, an unexpectedly grand Shaggy arrival and one of the biggest football management stories of the year.
