Brogan listened without Liam knowing
Scott and Chris arranged the most elaborate stage yet in the Brogan story.
Liam was on hold.
Brogan was also on hold.
Liam did not know Brogan was listening.
Brogan could hear everything.
The plan was to ask Liam whether, now that they had been messaging and both were single, he wanted to take Brogan out.
Scott first retraced the sequence because the story had become increasingly complicated.
Brogan had been ghosted.
The ghost would not come on air.
Liam, the ghost’s best friend, came on instead.
Liam had previously liked Brogan.
Then Brogan said she liked Liam.
Now Radio 1 was effectively trying to arrange a date with the original ghost sitting invisibly in the background of the whole thing.
Liam decided it was too messy
Liam confirmed that, before his friend had dated Brogan, he probably would have been interested.
He was single now too.
Scott made him repeat that he was “single and ready to mingle”.
But when the direct question arrived, Liam hesitated.
Dating somebody his best friend had been involved with could become complicated.
Rather than turn the whole thing into another relationship problem, he thought it was better to leave it.
He was open to the different friendship groups meeting and having a drink together.
Brogan was then brought properly into the conversation.
She accepted the answer.
There were no hard feelings, and she agreed that a friendship or group night out probably made more sense.
The team even joked that the original ghost could come too, although he should perhaps not be trusted with the bill in case he disappeared before paying it.
Ghostbusters had somehow ended not with confrontation, but with a proposed group friendship.
James brought Spy and Tell to Radio 1
James the private investigator then arrived with equipment from his real work.
One device could detect radio or mobile transmissions and was used when sweeping locations for hidden bugs.
The Radio 1 studio was not the ideal demonstration environment because it was already full of electronics and signals, but it gave Scott and Chris a glimpse of the practical tools behind James’s surveillance stories.
Then he produced a thermal-imaging camera.
Unlike an ordinary camera, it visualised heat.
That was enough for Scott and Chris to begin posing.
James demonstrated how people could still be visible through their heat signatures and encouraged the pair into an increasingly ridiculous recreation of two people apparently having an affair.
Scott and Chris ended up physically arranging themselves for the thermal image while James treated it like evidence from a surveillance job.
The feature became “Spy and Tell”: James bringing in one piece of investigative equipment and explaining how it was actually used.
For once, there was no cheating spouse to catch.
Scott and Chris supplied the pretend affair themselves.
