Archive special: back to Kavos
24 Years at the Tap End archive edition
Boxing Day selected one of the Tap End stories most associated with Scott and Chris together.
Chris went to his 23rd year at the Tap End and a return trip to Kavos.
He had visited the resort before with friends and remembered coming home more exhausted than when the holiday began.
This time the circumstances were different.
Radio 1 DJ Danny Howard had a booking there.
Scott and Chris travelled as part of the trip.
Chris immediately treated it as the opportunity for a proper lads’ holiday.
Scott’s normal idea of a break was not quite the same.
Chris wanted Scott to experience Kavos properly
Chris considered himself the Kavos expert.
He wanted Scott to see the strip, the clubs and the places he remembered from the earlier trip.
The day began more gently at the hotel pool.
Chris bought himself a large beer and asked for an umbrella because he considered that important holiday behaviour.
Scott was already tanned enough to blend in with the people around them.
Then Scott announced they had booked massages.
Chris had never had one before.
He became visibly nervous.
He thought full body meant completely naked
Chris entered the treatment room and misunderstood the instructions.
He believed a full-body massage meant removing everything.
He got completely naked.
The masseuse was not expecting that.
Scott was already receiving a massage in the next room and could hear Chris trying to work out what to do.
Eventually Scott shouted through the wall that Chris should put his boxer shorts back on and use the towel for cover.
Chris complied.
The embarrassment did not end there.
Chris filled the silence himself
Once the massage began, Chris decided the therapist needed feedback.
He started making appreciative noises.
Scott could hear these too.
Chris later explained that he thought the noises reassured the masseuse that she was doing a good job and helped cover the awkward silence.
Scott strongly disagreed.
At one point he shouted through the wall for Chris to stop.
Despite the strange beginning, Chris admitted the massage itself was relaxing.
The Kavos strip felt like a homecoming
Afterwards they headed towards the gig.
As the car reached the Kavos strip, Scott saw the sudden transformation from ordinary roads into crowds of people filling the resort.
Chris compared it with a zombie film.
For him, the arrival felt nostalgic.
The gig at Club Atlantis became one of the best he remembered.
Afterwards, Chris took Scott to the beach where he and his mates had once sat around a bonfire.
Scott enjoyed Kavos.
He declined Chris’s invitation to recreate every old tradition, including swimming out towards a boat.
Chris still hoped to return for a third visit.
The Boxing Day archive edition preserved one of the stories which best explained why the two presenters’ friendship worked.
Chris introduced Scott to chaotic holidays.
Scott introduced Chris to the basic rules of massage etiquette.
