Scott learns about bras and Chris gets a birthday-party tackle to the head
Sophie introduced the show while bra shopping, prompting Scott to confess that he had no idea how sizes worked. Listeners attempted to explain the system, but the discussion mainly confirmed that he should not be asked to advise on a Mother’s Day present involving underwear.
The listener had previously been made physically sick by the programme after listening to an episode featuring Beccy’s “Go on, pigs” line. Scott was flattered by the devotion but also firmly asked her not to make being sick into a regular part of listening to the show.
For 24 Years at the Tap End, Chris returned to childhood birthday parties: McDonald’s outings, Pizza Hut’s unlimited ice-cream factory, Laser Quest and sports halls with bouncy castles. His nostalgia was very specific, especially where party bags and the chance of a kitchen tour were concerned.
The most painful memory came at a party where Chris ran up a bouncy-castle ramp and dived straight into Alex Johnson’s little sister. He described it as a proper tackle, complete with tears, an angry father and the lasting knowledge that she hated him, although Scott could not resist pointing out that she was now dating a footballer.
The diary entry also covered a disastrous sleepover, where Ben Cowley’s mother called him her “gorgeous little cupcake” in front of everyone. Chris’s conclusion was that childhood parties were better before alcohol, and that somebody should create an adult version featuring the games, food and party bags, a proposal Scott regarded with understandable caution.
