24 November 2017: Private investigator James infiltrated a dodgy massage parlour

James had a password and a hidden camera

Private investigator James returned with another undercover story.

A client wanted proof that his girlfriend was working at a massage parlour.

The situation was already complicated because the client himself was married.

James described the establishment as less than entirely conventional. Getting inside involved a particular knock and a password-like exchange at the door.

Once admitted, he wore a hidden camera and microphone so a colleague waiting outside could hear what happened.

His objective was to identify the woman and establish what she was doing there.

The staff wanted him to have a massage

James’s problem was that entering a massage parlour and then refusing a massage looked suspicious.

Staff encouraged him to take his clothes off and even tried to get him into a bath.

He adopted a deliberately shy persona, kept talking for as long as possible and could hear his colleague laughing through the earpiece.

Eventually James claimed he was nervous and needed to go outside for a cigarette.

Despite avoiding the massage, he had obtained the evidence he needed.

He returned to the client and confirmed that the girlfriend was indeed working there.

James then teased another future story in which he had posed as a celebrity scout.

A first encounter with fish and chips blew a producer’s mind

One of the show team, who had recently moved to London from Northern Ireland, collected Scott’s fish and chips from the BBC canteen and could not believe the size of the fish.

It did not fit properly inside the takeaway container.

To everybody else, it looked like an entirely normal portion.

She was equally astonished by mushy peas being placed on top of the fish and admitted she had never actually eaten fish and chips herself.

Scott and Chris were delighted that something so ordinary to them could appear completely extraordinary to somebody else.

Nobody understood Dandini

The programme also recorded a short section for a listener’s Cinderella pantomime.

It quickly became obvious that Scott and Chris did not understand the plot or, specifically, who Dandini was.

They briefly convinced themselves Dandini might be a horse before callers with actual pantomime experience corrected them: Dandini was the prince’s servant and companion, not his noble steed.
