The travelling cushions
Molly’s missing clothes produced stories about possessions that continued moving after relationships ended. One listener saw a new girlfriend wearing her jumper after the man she was seeing had ghosted her. Another discovered that cushions she bought for an ex had passed through a second relationship and were now beneath the head of yet another partner.
Other examples included a recycled teddy still carrying a message to a previous girlfriend, a ring originally intended for an ex and an old toothbrush offered as a cleaning tool. Scott and Chris concluded that honesty was not always the kindest response when explaining where a romantic gift had come from.
Whose cat is it now?
Joanne had left a jointly owned cat with her former boyfriend because she was moving into a one-bedroom flat and the animal needed outdoor space. Months later, his new girlfriend used a kitten photograph of the cat as her Facebook profile picture.
Joanne accepted that the cat now lived with the couple but objected to the new girlfriend presenting an earlier part of its life as her own. The photograph had been taken by Joanne before the new relationship existed. Scott understood the emotional attachment, although he pointed out that a new partner living with the cat would inevitably begin treating it as part of her family.
A Big Weekend Bamboleo
The show marked Wednesday with a large Bamboleo as Radio 1’s trucks arrived in Devon. More than 75 acts were due across the weekend, and Scott was particularly excited about Coldplay’s production after remembering the cranes and suspended lights used at Glasgow in 2014.
In Battle of the Bangers, listener James chose Alexandra Stan’s “Mr Saxobeat”, giving Chris another win. A forecast of mostly dry weather and temperatures around 20C added to the sense that Exeter was almost ready.
Alice explains the salmon
Alice Levine played Real or No Real and confirmed the earlier claim that she brought salmon and avocado to supplement a hotel breakfast. She argued that she was only enhancing what was provided, while Scott and Chris thought unpacking personal fish at a buffet looked deeply disrespectful.
A separate story falsely claimed Matt Edmondson was related to the Earl of Devon. The resemblance to old portraits seemed plausible, but Matt had merely been chosen to raise Radio 1’s flag at Powderham Castle.
