24 May 2016: Steve Backshall helps Scott hold a tarantula

Rosie meets Scott

Steve Backshall returned with two spiders after remembering Scott’s fear from their time on Strictly Come Dancing. One was a Goliath birdeater, the largest kind of spider in the world, while the gentler starting point was Rosie, an 18-year-old Chilean rose tarantula.

Steve promised that Rosie could not hurt him and persuaded Scott to hold out both hands. Scott closed his eyes as she was placed on him, then gradually opened them and watched her move. He remained visibly stressed but completed the challenge, surprising both himself and Steve.

They also discussed Steve’s ITV series Fierce, electric eels capable of producing about 650 volts and the myth that daddy longlegs are highly venomous but unable to bite people. Steve said even small animals could be as interesting and formidable in their own world as sharks or other obvious predators.

A rainforest of Bingo spray

Rosie watched from a container while Steve faced Chris in Innuendo Bingo. His spray was so powerful and fine that Scott compared it with mist in a rainforest.

Clips came from Deadly 60, Woman’s Hour, Springwatch, Fierce and gardening programmes. Steve repeatedly emptied a full mouth of water across the studio, leaving Chris momentarily speechless and producing one of the wettest games for some time.

Clothes sent to the charity shop

Listener Molly’s ex-boyfriend had asked for trainers, shirts and jeans left at her home. The problem was that she had already donated them to a charity shop. Scott and Chris considered whether she should tell the truth, buy the clothes back or accept that each of them had also left possessions behind.

Molly decided to be honest. Her story led listeners to admit seeing new partners wearing their old jumpers, dresses and other clothes on social media, creating the following day’s main discussion.

Charlie Sloth played Real or No Real, including genuine human libraries where visitors could borrow a person to hear their experiences. Chris won Battle of the Bangers with M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” against Scott’s choice of Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West’s “Run This Town”.
