An affair at the hairdresser
Chris had used the same barber, Andy, for his entire life. A complimentary appointment at a much smarter salon therefore felt less like a haircut than infidelity.
He broadcast from the chair while a new stylist, Jason, washed his hair backwards over a basin. Chris was astonished by the massage function in the chair and by having a second man apply shampoo. His normal barber made him lean forward over a sink and finish quickly; this appointment involved consultations, “sectioning product” and a promised twenty-minute cut.
When conversation dried up, Scott fed Chris lines to repeat. He asked Jason whether he had done this before, how many men he saw each day, whether he remembered their names and whether the transaction would appear on a card statement. Jason accepted every question with impressive calm.
The finished shorter style looked “fresh and clean”, but Andy’s failure to send a message left Chris worried that the betrayal had already been discovered.
Birmingham prepares for 1Xtra Live
Charlie Sloth joined from Birmingham ahead of 1Xtra Live, with Mary J. Blige, Rick Ross, Krept & Konan, Lethal Bizzle, Fuse ODG, Tinashe and Sigma on the bill. He asked Scott to reassure Cheryl that comments made with Lethal Bizzle were not intended as a personal dispute.
In Real or No Real, Charlie explained why he had needed several attempts to climb aircraft steps while filming a promotional video: he had played three gigs, not slept, eaten or had enough to drink. A Fat Friday version of the feature ended before he could turn the explanation into an even longer defence.
Louis meets royalty
Louis Tomlinson called after One Direction met Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. He had discussed the tour during their first encounter and was impressed when William later asked specifically about Doncaster Rovers.
Scott tested Louis’s geography with Horsens, a Danish stop on the following year’s tour. Louis first placed it somewhere near South Africa and admitted that constant travel did not improve an already weak knowledge of locations.
He introduced Radio 1’s first play of “Night Changes”, describing it as a quieter, emotional change after the band’s faster singles. In the video, each member’s date would go wrong; Louis’s ended with him being pulled from his car and arrested.
One Direction were also due to perform on the Children in Need set at the Queen Vic. Louis learned this detail during the interview rather than from his own schedule, while Scott prepared to appear later with Sir Terry Wogan.
