Back from Eurovision
Scott returned from Liverpool following what he described as the best Eurovision week he had experienced.
He congratulated Vernon Kay on beginning his new Radio 2 mid-morning programme and admitted that presenting a first permanent show on the station could feel surprisingly frightening.
Scott also revisited highlights from the final, including Finland’s Cha Cha Cha, Mel Giedroyc’s milkmaid appearance and the atmosphere across Liverpool.
The Birthday Game: Paul
Paul from Motherwell turned 45 and worked as a palliative-care nurse.
Away from work, he enjoyed running, swimming and badminton.
Paul shared his birthday with Andy Murray, Zara Tindall, Mike Oldfield, Brian Eno and Sophie Raworth.
He said he liked good pop music from almost any era and wanted something upbeat or fun.
His first spin was Madison Avenue’s Don’t Call Me Baby, number one in 2000.
Paul initially asked to move on, then changed his mind before Scott could complete the next spin and decided to keep it.
His unused alternatives were Boney M’s Rivers of Babylon and Wet Wet Wet’s With a Little Help from My Friends.
Paul concluded that Madison Avenue was still the best of the three and received the birthday balloon.
Loreen after the victory
Loreen joined Scott after becoming the first woman to win Eurovision twice.
She said the Liverpool contest had felt more like one of her own concerts than a competition, echoing Graham Norton’s description of her performance.
After the final, the press conference and celebrations, she did not reach her hotel until around five in the morning.
Despite promising herself a glass of wine after months of preparation, she discovered the hotel bar had closed.
Broccoli, chicken and feta
Before the contest, Loreen had described a strict routine involving exercise, broccoli, chicken and feta.
After winning, she joked that she never wanted to see broccoli again.
Her trophy was still in her hotel room, although Scott advised displaying it in the kitchen where more people would see it.
Loreen also had several versions of the stage outfit and its very long nails.
She admitted that she sometimes found hand-washing clothes meditative while travelling, although Scott initially imagined her filling an entire hotel bath with laundry.
Watching the winning moment
Scott played Loreen the Radio 2 commentary from the moment Sweden won.
She praised Rylan and described him as a genuinely good person who could read people well.
Scott also showed her a viral recreation of the Tattoo performance in which somebody wore enormous homemade nails and performed beneath a kitchen table.
Loreen loved the tribute, which later passed one million views on Radio 2’s TikTok account.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after playing Tattoo and announcing that the Muppets would visit later in the week.
