Scott heard listeners’ stories about accidentally saying the wrong thing in everyday situations.
One birthday customer left a bakery after being wished a happy birthday and replied: “The same to you.”
Scott also revisited a newsreader accidentally ending a bulletin with the phrase she normally used when speaking to her dog.
The Birthday Game: Vicky
Vicky from Nelson in Lancashire turned 45.
She planned to celebrate at a pub quiz and said she was strongest when identifying song introductions.
Her celebrity birthday research included Pierce Brosnan, Stephen Mangan, Janet Jackson, Megan Fox, Tori Spelling, Christian Lacroix and Hazel O’Connor.
Vicky’s first spin was Boyzone’s cover of Anne Murray’s You Needed Me. She rejected it immediately.
The second was Ace of Base’s All That She Wants, number one in 1993.
Vicky was tempted but decided to gamble.
Her compulsory final spin was Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Despacito, featuring Justin Bieber.
She was delighted with the result and received the birthday balloon.
Scott later discovered he had incorrectly claimed Joan Jett recorded the original I Love Rock ’n’ Roll; the first version was by the Arrows.
The Music Police
Scott reopened the Music Police after the Eurovision break.
He first replayed the recently solved case in which B’s remembered line about loving “mama” and hating “daddy” had been identified as Pink’s God Is a DJ.
A new case came from Nick in Liverpool.
Nick remembered only the short phrase “paints a picture” and could not provide a reliable tune or any further lyrics.
Scott admitted the evidence was extremely limited and handed the case to listeners.
Suggestions began arriving immediately, but the investigation was held over until Thursday.
The Muppets are coming
Scott announced that Floyd Pepper and Animal from the Electric Mayhem would join the programme the following afternoon.
They would face a Music Police test to determine whether their musical knowledge was strong enough for them to join the force.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox with Nick’s case unresolved.
