5 April 2018: James revealed the ultimate petty revenge on a cheating husband

James had already proved the affair

James the private investigator returned with a story which began like many of his cases: a client suspected her husband was cheating and wanted evidence.

James followed him and eventually obtained the photographs and video needed to establish that the affair was real.

That normally would have been the end of the interesting part of the surveillance. This case was different because James still had one final practical job to do. He had placed a tracker on the husband’s van and needed to remove it before the case was closed.

The client had access to a spare key, which meant they could get into the vehicle.

The van became the confrontation

Instead of waiting for a dramatic face-to-face confrontation, the client decided the van itself would deliver the message.

She gathered the husband’s possessions, including clothes and shoes, and put them into the back of the vehicle. Then she left a folder containing James’s surveillance photographs on the passenger seat.

The idea was simple. He would return to his van, discover that his belongings had effectively been packed for him and then find photographic proof that his wife knew exactly what he had been doing.

James did not stay to watch the discovery.

Scott and Chris immediately wanted to know what the man’s reaction had been, but James could only imagine the moment he opened the vehicle and realised that he had not only been caught, he had been followed professionally.

That led into a wider conversation about petty revenge after relationships went wrong. Scott remembered previous examples people had suggested to the show, including sending unpleasant deliveries to somebody’s home, but the team were careful not to turn revenge into an excuse to break the law.

The van story worked because the confrontation required no shouting. The evidence had already done the job.

Biggest Weekend added more names

Radio 1 was also continuing to build the line-up for BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend.

Florence + the Machine were among the major names discussed for Swansea, with further additions including Shawn Mendes, Mollie King and Liam Payne.

Scott and Chris ran through the latest announcements while listeners were still trying to work out which day and location they most wanted to attend.

Craig’s “truth about girls” observations also continued to generate messages after the previous two shows, but James’s story provided the clearest reminder that ordinary relationship problems on this programme could quickly turn into something much more elaborate once a private investigator became involved.
