Marcus Collins, siren impressions and Chris’s autobiography plans
Scott began his Breakfast Show cover week for Nick Grimshaw with an introduction from Brad, a listener whose unlikely talent was an alarm-and-siren impression. Brad had been doing it since childhood, and even Beccy’s attempt at a modern siren could not quite match the real thing.
Marcus Collins joined the programme as his debut single, a cover of The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, arrived on Radio 1. He said he had wanted an iconic riff for a first release but had deliberately avoided doing the most predictable possible X Factor single.
The pair returned to the final, where Marcus recalled seeing the camera crew move towards Little Mix and realising the result was unlikely to be his. He said he was proud to have reached the last two and was more interested in making music than treating the result as the only measure of success.
Marcus also discussed the album he had been writing and recording since December, with Gary Barlow acting as executive producer. The conversation brought in his former life as a hairdresser, and Scott made the most of the fact that Beccy was due a trim.
Elsewhere, the team laughed at Chris’s apparent ambition to write an autobiography despite being only 23. Between Marcus’s very recent fame and Chris’s insistence that he had already lived enough for a book, the programme made a good case for autobiographies having no minimum age requirement.
