Beccy’s faith in fortune cookies inspired a remarkably elaborate plan. After hearing that a friend took every prediction seriously, the team wondered whether blank cookies could be bought, filled with carefully chosen messages and used to convince her of almost anything.
The idea became even more ambitious when Scott found a company that would print personalised messages. Lottery numbers after the draw were suggested as the ultimate trick, although everyone accepted that getting custom fortune cookies from New Zealand might make the joke unnecessarily expensive.
The show’s David Guetta-style song was also taking shape, with Scott, Beccy and Chris recording backing vocals. Scott had been told to channel Sia on Titanium, while Chris was assigned a Pitbull-like rap, leaving both of them to wonder whether the finished track could possibly sound as intended.
Travie McCoy and Matt McGinley from Gym Class Heroes joined Scott before their gig. Travie spoke about travelling by bus and ferry, the distinctive smell of music venues and the occasional danger of announcing the wrong city on stage, while confirming that their touring demands were refreshingly modest.
Travie also admitted he enjoyed a sit-down shower and had once fallen asleep with the handheld shower still running. The programme later turned Jamie Oliver’s trip to Essex into a Danny Howard points game, with listeners asked to count the astonishing 13 mentions of winkles.
