11 November 2008: Scott launched a campaign to bring back the word “plump”

Scott wanted “plump” back

The team decided the word had fallen out of everyday use even though it offered a softer way to describe size than many alternatives. Rather than simply mention it, the programme launched a full campaign to revive “plump”.

Music was recruited to the cause

Songs and lyrics about men preferring larger women were used as evidence that the campaign had cultural support. The joke relied on the programme treating vocabulary reform as though it were an urgent public-service mission.

Mariah Carey and a three-year-old entered the mix

Mariah Carey’s Christmas music and X Factor connections were discussed, including the idea of persuading her to make another festive record. Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham also featured, while What’s Occurring? received the ultimate sign of success: a parent complained that a three-year-old had started shouting the feature’s catchphrase constantly at home.
