3 April 2008: Patsy Palmer on Eastenders Return, Pointless Survey of Hated Words

Eastenders star Patsy Palmer drops by on her way to an early shift to chat about returning to the soap, plus Scott unveils a potential singing discovery and listeners vote on their most despised English words.

Patsy Palmer joins the show fresh from getting the clocks forward, heading in to film Eastenders. She discusses the long hours on set—often working until 7pm—and the constant learning of lines, contrasting it with the popular misconception that soap acting is a cushy job. She’s been back for a few months and enjoying playing Bianca again, finding the character even more fun now she’s older. The conversation touches on the old Top of the Pops segments that used to film in the Eastenders pub, creating bizarre encounters between soap characters and international pop stars.

Scott plays the True or False game with Patsy, covering her fake tan range, her real name (Harrington), and her appearances in The Bill, where she played multiple characters including a teenage prostitute and a woman whose baby appeared in an episode.

The show runs a new feature called Pointless Survey of the Day, asking people which words they hate most. Patsy guesses along as Scott reveals the results: number six is “leakage,” five is “mushroom,” four is “gash,” three is “cottage cheese,” two is “friends,” and the most hated word is “discharge.” Patsy joins in the game, correctly identifying “discharge” at number one.

Scott also debuts a potential new Zane’s Masterpiece: Wing, a New Zealand singer with a unique vocal style who offers to call up anyone who buys her CD and sing to them personally. He plays several of her covers, including AC/DC and Elvis.
