26 March 2019: Yungblud was terrible at Music Video or Adult Video

Radio 1 wanted to find its secret workplace listeners

The Radio 1 at Work campaign continued.

Scott and Chris wanted to know where people were quietly listening while somebody else controlled the office radio.

Student Karen had already performed a deliberate Radio 1 cough in a Cardiff university library.

Jack in Wrexham had approached his boss with the deliberately unsubtle line:

“Radio 2 is crap.”

Another caller, Alex, admitted listening secretly at his desk while the rest of the office preferred another station.

Scott and Chris promised workplace visits in the coming weeks.

They wanted everything from offices and fish-and-chip shops to football stadiums, massage parlours, North Sea rigs and military bases.

Nicole’s next idol was Deborah Meaden

Nicole from Pontypridd returned after the success of Nicole Meets Eamonn Holmes.

Scott asked who came next on her personal celebrity list.

The answer was Deborah Meaden from *Dragons’ Den*.

Nicole liked Deborah because she seemed strict and capable of getting things done.

This presented a very different interview challenge from Eamonn.

Nicole’s brother had already warned her that she could not simply mess around if she spoke to Deborah.

Scott immediately spotted another opportunity.

If Nicole could invent a business idea, perhaps Deborah could assess it.

Nicole’s first suggestions demonstrated why she might need Radio 1’s help before meeting an actual Dragon.

The programme promised to investigate whether the interview could happen.

Yungblud remained loyal to Doncaster

The main guest was Yungblud, Dominic Harrison from Doncaster.

Scott and Chris had been looking through his local newspaper, the Doncaster Free Press.

Yungblud said that no matter how big an artist became, appearing in the local paper still carried special weight with family.

He could play a show in Los Angeles.

His mum would still be most excited by the Doncaster Free Press.

One headline reported him enjoying a yacht trip in Australia with girlfriend Halsey.

Nearby stories included discounted takeaway carveries and a “Tuneless Choir” for people who loved singing despite not being especially good at it.

Yungblud loved that his international celebrity story sat beside completely local news.

Halsey began with a drink and music talk

Yungblud also spoke about meeting Halsey for a drink.

The conversation was initially about music and finding somebody who thought in a similar way.

They went somewhere he described as a secret, hipster-style bar.

Scott immediately wanted the name.

Yungblud refused to give it because the whole point was keeping it secret.

Music Video or Adult Video destroyed him

Then came Music Video or Adult Video.

Scott read comments taken either from Yungblud’s music videos or adult videos.

Yungblud had to identify the source.

He was terrible.

A comment admiring a smile at exactly 51 seconds sounded adult to him.

It was his own video.

Another warned that he looked like the kind of man a mother would warn her daughter about.

Again, Yungblud assumed adult video.

Again, it was about him.

Comments about trembling, strong storytelling, somebody being sexy and underrated and footage looking as though it had been shot on a budget kept confusing him.

He got almost everything wrong.

His increasingly outraged reaction made the game better with every failure.

One listener later admitted trying not to laugh during an important work meeting while secretly listening to the interview.

Yungblud had arrived as an existing star.

He left with several new Radio 1 fans largely because he was so bad at recognising comments under his own videos.
