1 May 2006: Big Weekend memories, revision breaks and a David Blaine rant

Today’s show was all about past Radio 1 Big Weekends, with Scott playing a run of live tracks from previous years.

Plenty of listeners were revising hard, so Scott advised them to throw their books out of the window. Message board user IrishBaz seemed to be taking it a little too far: he was sitting in a library considering doing exactly that, and got a mention on air for his trouble. That’s why you should be on our message board from 4pm.

Between the live tracks there were occasional revision breaks. Scott suggested you put your pens down as he tried to redeem himself for telling everyone in education to throw their books out of the window and become… pole dancers.

Scott also had a little rant about David Blaine, who hadn’t impressed him with his latest stunt: a week in a tank of water followed by holding his breath while chained up. “He’s obviously learnt his lesson not to come to the UK, as we threw stones at him when he was in that box. That’s what we do around here,” he said. One texter said he’d spent three hours making dog noises under the box when it was by the Thames, and it was then reported that it was Mr Blaine himself making the noises.

We’re back tomorrow with Chappers and the crew for the normal Scott Mills show.
