Well this morning when I woke up and begun messaging members on the message board I did not expect a day like today. It's been a long day for all of us, even more so for Scott. Here's a round-up of Thursday's morning show.
Scott's Morning Delights
Scott's excited about the Olympics this morning and he wanted to know what the latest was with Steven Gerrad, he must be ill. It's Thursday today and it's only bluuddy Friday tomorrow. Scott watched Kath 'n' Kim. Thankfully for Scott, Chappers hadn't done anything more exciting, he'd played football. Trailer Park Boys wasn't any good last night apparently. Scott's had a recurring dream that he's been bitten by a dog.
Scott: "Apparently it's something to do with my wife"
Chappers: "Right… Well that's accurate then"
Scott's favourite text of the morning comes in from a girl saying "Tell Kate to shut up. If she can't say anything positive about the Olympic village she shouldn't say anything at all". Apparently they meant Kate Garraway. Scott rang the texter back, he didn't mention he was from Radio 1 or GMTV and asked them to go on air, but she was "busy"…
Celebrity Time Check
At 7.10 today we had Scott off of the last Big Brother, he's done a lot for himself hasn't he. And meanwhile, at 8.10 we had Dom off of Dick and Dom.
The Grand Prix
Chappers had some tickets to give away to the Grand Prix at Silverstone. The idea was for a caller to go head-to-head with Scott in a battle of their Grand Prix knowledge. Laura had come up with a Rate My Listener style competition called 'Grand Prix' but they felt they couldn't go ahead with it. Prix being pronounced ‘pricks’. Took me a while to get that joke! A very big prize, good blag Mr Chapman!
The game itself was pretty simple. Was very much a 'Chappers and Dave' style quiz. Scott and Marcus (the caller) had to answer 'Driver' or 'Not a Driver' to 10 names. Scott did better than what we expected, and it was quite close. Scott even became rather competitive. Marcus even managed the Big Fact Hunt slogan:
"I've never won anything in my life.
Chappers: "Wrong quiz mate!"
Scott then accused Chappers of being a bully, and then said it reminded him of his PE teacher at school.
Big Bother
One caller rang in about Eugene from Big Brother and the task that he had to perform last night. Both the caller and Scott felt sorry for him as the other housemates were bullying him. The task was for the next housemate he sees, he had to mimic them. It was Makosi, and he was copying her moves, and she wasn't happy with the whole idea and had a go at him. And then there was Maxwell chasing Anthony around the kitchen with a toilet brush. How hygienic…
Rate Them Happy
Rate My Listener
Rate My Listener was back again today. Lou from yesterday's show, who was just out of bed, had a good response from yesterday. Even an old school friend got in touch with her. Her final result was 'not bad'.
It was guess the occupation for today's Rate My Listener lad. His name was Darren, 25, from Middlesbrough. He's not a sun bed repair man who forgets to turn them off at work. He doesn't creosote people's fences either. He's not a door-to-door salesman, or a stripper. Actually, he's a property surveyor. The Star Phone
It's still running. It's not been binned yet. Must be quite some mobile phone if it's still running! It wasn't Jay-Z or Snoop that answered, but Chappers said he'd be interested to see how he handled the language from Snoop. Chappers claimed he'd give Scott a fiver if she answered. Another international dialling tone, and it appears this time she was up and actually in the bath tub. She was on Richard and Judy this evening, but apparently it was pre-recorded.
Mary-Kate and Ashley, not Madeline and Olivia

9-Year-Old Madeline, from Derby, was off to school today. No ASBO behaviour there. Her folks were upstairs whilst she was on the phone and was with her twin sister Olivia. Madeline appeared to be the chattier one. Madeline, another fan of Gwen Stefani, gave us a chorus with "b-a-n-a-n-a-s". She gambled her dad's power kite for a Stefani CD. Her dad's in Liverpool, so he wouldn't be able to do much if she loses it. She also wanted a Mary-Kate and Ashley DVD. Chappers is a big fan of them.
Chappers: "Who are they?… There are three of them!"
Scott: "No. Mary-Kate AND Ashley"
She gambled her brother Dominic's rabbit, Dodgy. Looks like he could be rabbit stew. Madeline reckons he's like Scott, because he's dodgy.
Chappers: "You know what Madeline, you're not wrong, you're not wrong…"
And finally, she's going to gamble her mum and dad's caravan in Devon for a brand new bike.
Scott: "So your mum and dad might be a bit surprised if they turn up and find me and Chappers staying in your caravan"
Chappers: "I'd be a bit surprised too, I didn't know we were going caravaning"
Scott: "Yeah… People would talk"
So what was the question? What's the value for Pi to 10 decimal places. Well it's approximately 3.14159265359 so I'm told.
A fix? Some people. It's those people that deserve the ASBOs – trying to deny children their prizes.

Random Acts of Kindness
Yup, it's back again. Random Act of Kindness. Wendy was on the line, she was filling up with tears when talking about her son Thomas. His father died four years ago, he's her best friend and he's been very supportive for the family and was known as "the man of the family". A very emotional and touching story for all listening. Music is one of his greatest passions, and he loves a wide variety of bands. Scott called him up and gave him some exclusive T in the Park tickets with VIP access. Sweet eh? Lots of girls crying after that. Don't forget to get in touch with Scott if you know someone who deserves a Random Act of Kindness.
Egg on your face
How many puns could we have come up for this feature? There was a lot of concern about how well Jo Whiley had done at her child's Sports Day. There were three heats, and she said she started off doing well. Almost in the leads, and she got within 10 metres in the end and the egg fell off. She picked it up and held it, got over the line and…. was disqualified. Chappers was making notes for his 9.30 news bulletin.
Chappers: "So I've put Jo Whiley in egg and spoon controversy".
Jo and Scott: "Perfect!"
He did it as well. This was just as the first reports of an explosion on the London Underground had just broken. At 9.30 Jon had little information about it, but said he'd keep us posted. And indeed he did.
At 9.45 Scott broke to a special Newsbeat with Jon, with reports of two explosions which were believed to have been caused by a 'power surge'. The underground had been closed.

The show finished with Scott telling us Jo Whiley was up next, and the Newsbeat jingle, informing us of explosions on the underground, and Scotland Yard claiming it was a "major incident". Jon seemed a bit lost for words as he informed us, but at this point there still wasn't too much information coming in.
As the day continued there were regular Newsbeat updates, at some points one every 15 minutes. These were without the usual jingles and beds with Jon Stewart before Natalie Jameson took over. Reports of explosions on buses and on the underground continued to come in before it was finally confirmed it wasn't a 'power surge' but a terrorist attack. George Bush and Tony Blair addressed the world during Newsbeat's special lunchtime broadcast, and information continued to come in.
Jo Whiley continued with her show but was a lot quieter, and Colin Murray presented Colin & Edith but scrapped the usual features, with just slow music and a special lunchtime lovers. At 4pm Scott returned, to the airwaves…
He's here all day…
So Scott's back in the chair after a long and emotional day, and it's 'get home with Mills' once more.
After hearing Jo Whiley and Colin Murray, I once again smiled as I heard:
"It's me again…"
Not out of disrespect to what's happened today, but after what's happened today, it's the first thing that has sounded cheery.
Of course it wasn't going to be a normal drive-time show. Most of the show comprised of slow music and up-to-date information.
Scott spoke about his eventful day – broadcasting on the Breakfast Show, having a sleep upstairs in the studio, and then returning at 4pm to fill-in for Vernon Kay (who's filling in for him). Apparently there's a sense of "I want to get home, so let's get on with it" at the Radio 1 building. I'm sure the wine will be 'on' again tonight.
Scott spoke to Vernon this afternoon to reassure Vernon fans (and Radio 1 listeners) that he's okay. And indeed he was, he's at home but couldn't get into London because of the chaotic traffic.
Natalie Jameson kept us up-to-date with the latest news every 15 minutes, as she has been doing for most of the day. Don't forget the number casualty and enquiry line is 0870 1566 344. In the meantime Scott gave out traffic information.
Scott would like to thank two members of the Radio 1 staff for making Scott a nice bed for him to sleep in so he could have a kip after being up since five in the morning. Like Vernon said, he's a "true trooper".
It’d be unfair to comment on today’s show as the last hour was dominated by the breaking news. I don't think people really understood the seriousness of the story when I told my friends waking up this morning after hearing Newsbeat at 9.30. Neither did I. Hopefully it'll be back to normal tomorrow morning, and hopefully the staff at Radio 1 are safe. Don't forget to visit our message board, where we continue to discuss today's events.
