  1. "No english" on the bike was the best bit
  2. Yes 100% already booked the weekend off. Luckily I have a mate in luton so have a bit of an in there
  3. It feels so weird that everyone is saying they are being demoted and Dean is going to 5am and they are just carrying on the show as normal. It hasn't worked that's a given, I think the sooner its off afternoons the better. What does everyone think the next move for Dean will be after earlies. Am I right in thinking Arielle has done them for years and is that what would be called overnights? Overs for us is up till 8am! It's a shame there seems to be an obsession with shows coming from different places
  4. Some of the phrases on here are very funny, the shoutout king 😂 Jack is great whenever I catch bits of him on the evening shows and delivering the new music but I get what you mean and I much prefered Scott on the chart. It feels like arielle is going to stay with the dance djs now .I do think Katie will stay with R1 across this time period being discussed. Nat and vicky could stay as a thing but equally James and Katie could if Vick left in the next few years. I don't think she'll be there in 18 months - 2 years
  5. Wait is that who it was? Did he say something about who it was after? Maybe I missed that part but i thought I'd skipped through all of it on sounds. I still think its James for weekends and it's his global work thats holding it up
  6. For me, there wasn't that entertaining factor about it that there was when scott and chris did the show. It's not difficult to say is this entertaining or not for the audience and lots of what they kept doing regularly simply wasn't up to scratch. Whenever I listened to Mills it made the day go faster when on call and it was quiet, or doing paperwork. All dean and vickys show made me do was eye roll. Perhaps management also did the same thing in the end?
  7. How do people see these figures and how are they measured exactly?
  8. At least we won't have to wait long to find out. Its got a much better chance at long term success with katie on it thats for sure. I heard the end of vick and her yesterday on the way to work and they do sound natural together
  9. I remember hearing the Yungblud cover shows he did on evenings and he was actually very amusing. Hadn't he been doing a podcast or something else with the station at that point before he started appearing on evenings? I don't recall him doing anything else since
  10. I only heard bit of jamie and Matt but it felt like he didn't care, that was the impression I got everytime I heard him. Katie feels like she will be the one that will keep Vick and Jamie in order. It was a good move to put her in and her friendship with vick will no doubt help that group a lot.
  11. Haha, I actually heard the first part of the show live when I posted in the chat box that he sounded good but simply skimmed through the links after work to get the details of the rest of it. Yes I do justify my bets! Inc the katie for weekdays it that counts, even though she's now in a 3. I'll set up a rival site! Unfortunately my job here isn't as glamorous as radio 1.... we have hospital radio but it's off air while I'm on the overnights and we mostly go for r1 anyway! Talking of which..
  12. I think he sounded brilliant yesterday, he gets better and better and some of the things he does on his shows set him apart massively. The apprentice game was very inclusive and how he invited everyone to it, you straight away feel like its a show for you. Witty and sharp during it and saying to email Aled when a listener said they wanted to be on radio 1 was cheeky. The Brits mole piece at around 3.20 with the changed voice was a very amusing, I actually laughed out loud and so Mills-esque. He wasn't showing off about going there either and actually said at the end he didn't get a ticket so was going back home to yorkshire. You really can't beat his down to earth relateability and warmth, funnily enough just like the northerner who's departed, all be it he's a bit more showbiz now Looking forward to hearing James today.
  13. That's an interesting read. I'm not sure how he says you need to have an audience already and you maybe can't work your way up the traditional way. That seems to be what Aled has championed all along and has done very well with. Yet to be convinced about him and if he'll win over the "normal" listeners who don't have a load of money. In the 12 min podcast they did, already the shrugging off of turning up to his driving theory test over 30 times because "life got in the way" could be seen as miles away from someone who saves money up to get their licence. If it's unrelatable, unwarming, it's likely the off button
  14. It feels very likely it's going to be James. He's been doing plenty of shows for Global including recently at their head office in London so and is clearly well thought of by them. It might actually be a bit of a steal (while not on the Jordan north scale but still) if the BBC signed him up for a full time show and took him away from Global. It'll be really interesting to hear him on the shows weekend
  15. Greg, Nat and Vicky, James Cusack then Jack Saunders and Danny Howard is a strong Friday line up
  16. James Cusack is an excellent presenter by himself but they have clearly put him with others recently including Mollie and Nat to prove that he can also do it with other people. He's popular, warm, funny and entertaining and his shows should be on weekly. I'm sure r1 have learnt that going for people that are the opposite of this, is the mistake of how d&v ended up. It's a no brainer for Aled to give him the afternoon show on a weekend and he's the last piece in a very strong weekday and weekend line up now
  17. Does it say anywhere that the weekend show is still tba? James Cusack will no doubt have a part to play in the changes be that weekend afternoons which he's sounds excellent on, or in weekend breakfast if Sam and Danni moved up to afternoons
  18. Katie joining will definitely tone it down and potentially bring more normality to the show and the relatable factor which may have got lost in this show otherwise. You can see why Aled has done what he has done and it's a good job. D&V did need to go or be split up and drive needed someone like Katie
  19. When did Sam and danni start that show, wasn't it fairly recently? Like you say they may not mess with another show and as it comes from Cardiff that's got to be a big factor. James would be perfect on fri/sat/sun afternoons on radio 1 and would slot right in. Whichever way it happens at the weekend, he'll surely get a show from it. I wonder if he has to give notice with Capital and that could be a hold up
  20. He's listed as doing Saturday and Sunday this week 1-4pm
  21. You could move that show to any time slot and it still wouldn't work. It's simply not a vibe. I'd say what about 2am, but then I wouldn't want that for the people including me who have to do shift pattern overs
  22. If this is true, it's a big turnaround and I didn't see that one coming, but I wonder how many days or weeks it'll be before we find out if this is true or not. If Matt and Mollie go to weekdays, it surely has to be James Cusack that takes on that show. He's the only one who's covered it and matched up to the quality and notably by himself. Excellent in a duo and as a solo. I've said it before, incredibly likeable, high quality, funny and original. I'm actually very pleased to see them putting him back on the 1-4 weekend shows again, hopefully it's a well deserved full time show if Matt and mollie are promoted.
  23. It feels like the story is already out there. Obviously there would be little bits that might not be totally accurate but as a broad picture it's already out there. Apart from breakfast there wasn't really any progression for him there. If they had said no to breakfast, then he would be tempted by a big money offer and a breakfast show. Sounds like there was negotiations but they didn't materialise. They didn't want him on air anymore (which while it may be seen as a bit tight and I also think it's a bit tight) because he was about to take his popularity to the competitor. More to the point what the hell is this article about?! Who's actually betting on this stuff! "It seems the negative reaction towards Laing’s arrival didn’t go unnoticed as bookmakers were quick to mark-up how long he would last as the new Radio 1 host. Laing has been given 4/6 odds of lasting under one year, and 6/5 odds of him lasting over a year - falling very short from North’s previous reputation. Lee Astley of Lucky Block said: "Our traders have taken on board the negative feeling around Jamie Laing’s appointment as replacement for popular host Jordan North (who has joined Capital FM) and they reckon he will be gone within a year." https://www.gbnews.com/celebrity/jamie-laing-bbc-radio-1-dealt-blow-odds-jordan-north-replacement
  24. Vick and Katie could still be a thing, but Katie is good by herself. There's still a lot of good talent on R1 remember. James could have easily done drive with Vick, but replacing a Jordan v2 might be too jarring. I'm on nights here and listening back to Nat and James' show after he posted a clip on his instagram. He's naturally funny without trying and when the caller doesn't pick up and ruins the game, it isn't cringe, he actually styles it out with the music backing and says, right we'll just block you then. Reminds me of how scott would deal with it. Disappointed that Mollie and James isn't a thing again and its just Mollie solo as they were really good together, but then he's on the show himself the next day
  25. Not often we get 2 daytime shows changed in one week and a pretty different feel to what Dean and vicky usually offer this week, but dare I say it - much better. I prefer Nat when she's got someone like him to bring it back down to earth. James showing why he's a brilliant R1 presenter yet again for these shows... very relatable, very witty with his turn of phrase and one liners and creative again with a new radio feature, dating faking. He said on air it's another one he thought of down the pub! Without a doubt he's one of the strongest new presenters by himself but I'd definitely listen to this show again. You can have all the Jamie laings in the world, but he's got that Scott/Jordan 'I'm one of you' factor that Radio 1's missing especially now Jordan has jumped ship.
