  1. I believe a few said it in the chat @lochnessa @StormcloudR1 but James was again spoke about on a few forums today and showed that he's brilliant and shines with anyone. He was paired up with Nat today, who can have a select audience at times, but he brought it right back down to earth. A funny presenter with loads of personality that can cut through a somewhat posh outlook at Radio 1 and make it feel relevant to northerners. With Jordan working for the main competitor, he still reminds me of a jordan scott hybrid and someone they should keep a hold of
  2. If they're really keen and dead set on having Dean for breakfast that might have been the reason, or one of the reasons. I think he'll thrive at Capital but there's no getting away from the loss for r1 is huge.
  3. It wasn't good at all. I do feel like Katie thistleton should be moved up to daytime now, it's long overdue. I'm not sure what they see in Ore either, I find him a bit flat and basic, I don't know what he stands for. He's also struggled to do anything other than shouts, or talk about himself and how he's from London. For comparison, James Cusack's shows have been far better in terms of quality, his warmth and what he's about and a huge leap in entertainment factor. Both Katie and James should be on more
  4. @R1Fan1 You're fully correct, I've watched back Sunday brunch. He seemed very flustered when they asked him about it as they referred to it as, "you got Jordan North sacked so you could get his job" then replied with "I did a stint with Matt Edmondson and they said would you like to do this one. I said that would be amazing and hopefully I do a good job" He accidentally said Jordan has huge shoes to fill, rather than I have huge shoes to fill. Face palm. Then got the show time wrong too saying 3-6pm drivetime. So it looks like he's doing half an hour of dean and vickys show and then newsbeat lol Kinda makes the whole thing a bit of a joke but most importantly seems to suggest it's a "stint"
  5. Ore was ok on early breakfast but does generally just do shouts and other peoples features. It's hard to know what he stands for. I wouldn't say he's that strong as a presenter and has to be carried to get anything from him. Today I have to agree with what's been said above that the show wasn't very good. There aren't many times we have to turn it off here, but all 4 of us agreed, that was one of them. It feels upside down at the moment.
  6. This. It's like community radio
  7. Dean got so much stick on that r1 insta post and then he's not even there, that's the funniest thing
  8. Time to go back to the basics I feel. Play some good songs and entertain the audience with some good presenter content, not silly games with random presenters. I can see why some people have said it's turned cringe recently. Any chance we can have Scott and Chris back with Granny Tinder?
  9. I just can't get on board with it. These 3 don't work
  10. It's in a bit of a state at the moment. Nat Vicky and Ore is not good a good show at all.
  11. Interesting. Has that been announced anywhere?
  12. I think that was read as the BBC won't let him stay. What was meant was absolutely they'll be keen to keep hold of him, they've just lost one of their biggest presenters. It's more about if he wants to stay, or if he's thinking it's time. Look at how R1 used to be when he started vs. how it is now
  13. Well no one of Jordans level has ever gone from mainstream Radio 1 to the main competitor. It's a bit of a disaster really. I'm not sure Greg will stay, the reason being Jordan North is up against him with a brand new fresh breakfast show with Chris Stark. That's a big offering. Greg meanwhile is however many years in and it's not fresh. You can see listeners flooding over to Capital
  14. Totally agree with the above that those are the next in line for the breakfast shows. I'd say potentially Dean is the favourite at the moment if Greg was to go tomorrow. It's clear the Aled and other management like him. I think Katie is also a very strong contender for something more and a move up to weekday daytimes, subject to where the show is allowed to come from and also if the guesses of Jamie Laing being a decision just for the time being are correct. One thing that I have noticed. With Jordan now gone to a rival station, and this already being predicted on here for further into 2024, I think there's an even greater chance we'll see James Cusack land a full time show and here's why. There was a gap at R1 when Chris Stark left, for the down to earth bloke character, but now the entire 'Jordan north Northern male figure on Radio 1' has literally vanished overnight and not only that it's been erased. Worse still they've both gone to the main competitor. He's now the only northern male they have and I've said before he reminds me of the Jordan of a few years ago. There has also been a pretty huge backlash about the drive gig going to a posh boy and the BBC seems to react to politics. That all aside, they'd be stupid not to give James a full time show somewhere on the station as he is the relatable, funny, down to earth guy from the north and above all he's been excellent on radio 1 each time he's covered. He's outshone many other cover presenters with what he does in his shows and original features. We often comment how light some shows can be and he makes it sound dead easy. Think you could outrun a bear? was not only funny but original and even mates at work who have 0 interest in radio commented on it and it got them talking. His duo shows with Mollie King in November I think it was were also strong for first shows. From socials it looks like he's been doing more with Global including Capital and then the other week on his story doing what looked like some network shifts plus Heart 00's. He's not a big name granted, but he's a steal from them. When they're bringing in the likes of Jamie Laing and with Jordan gone, it's left a huge gap even more so for someone like Cusack to scoop up some northern listeners who relate to him and even charm some southern ones. That's my thinking anyway.
  15. Yes a very possible theory that they would get them to match up. I feel like Vick wouldn't have wanted to have been rushed into a decision about leaving so soon and this all looks to have come about fairly quickly. It makes sense to stick with it for now and leave if she wanted to, on her own terms
  16. Yeah and the fact he's started with network uk shows now. Based on the quality of his shows and how he's universally liked on forums, that will no doubt translate into audiences (he must have had good feedback to keep being on r1), then they would be massively missing out. I feel like Katie who is also very talented and well liked, would have been much more well received option yes, and then like you say, James Cusack into Katies weekend shows.
  17. Fully agree with you. Matt clearly used to drag him along, you could hear that when they were together when he was doing the cover. But as you've rightly said, I think temporary and give management some breathing space. Also agree with good podcaster but poor R1 broadcaster. Yeah that's reasonable to say and obviously they shouldn't be all northern, of course not. A lot of those names you mention have obviously now left Radio 1 and most aren't on daytimes for normal shows. I think it's fair to say Jordan was the main northern character on R1. Katie, Vicky H, Nat are their 3 Northern females. As for their Northern male? There's now only James Cusack that Radio 1 has. He's the down to earth, guy down the pub presenter that connects with the northerners and similar to Jordan puts an endearing charm on southeners The gap was there at R1 when Chris Stark left, it's even more prominent now that Jordan has gone. When I say gone, he actually vanished from Radio 1 in a day. I wouldn't be surprised if they're now looking at Cusack and thinking we need to have him on more and give him a show on a September change around. His shows are excellent, he's very likeable and fills a demographic
  18. I massively agree with this. Vick isn't going to want to stay that long surely. Travels with Calvin, brand deals, tv shows (of which seem to be more and more) It was probably much too soon for her to simply leave when Jordan did and in reality it probably happened far too quickly to make a decision about her career. I also wonder with the amount of time off she has and Jamie didn't seem to be always there even in the few weeks of mat cover, Katie could end up with a lot of cover work from it. Let's also say Jamie is interim, it plugs a gap and management have the rest of the spring and summer to come up with a decent line up that will carry the station forward
  19. How rushed do we think it actually is? Grimmy said bye, Annie said bye, Scott and Chris said bye. Do we think he got told you can't say bye?
  20. Yes I agree with that, I think we'll see a schedule overhaul come the summer.
  21. This exactly. It's got to be a stop gap like you say. It's turned from being a show for the north of the country to a show for Londoners, that can't be the full time solution.
  22. Yep. he grafted it and was rewarded (rightfully) with his popularity. Jamie Laing is Maya Jama all over again. And we know how that went. Has anyone ever said, "omg, I miss Maya Jama on R1"? No. This will be the same. But they will miss Jordan. And why? Jordan looking at his history, built it up in radio, built up a liking, a somewhat following if you like, and brought the audience along with him. Yes he got more famous as the years went on and all that, but he was still likeable and relatable. He grafted. They're the kind of presenters r1 needs to keep its audience and try to build new audience.
  23. The raw fact of it is if Jordan wasn't going to R1 breakfast soon, then where else would he go. If he's going to Capital breakfast then he's extended his career and made it onto a national breakfast show, not to mention the money. You would hope this is a massive wake up call for Radio 1 to keep hold of good talent and not let them go to their competitors, but when you see Jamie Laing on hire, I despair. We can only hope it's been a very sudden "we need to fill this quickly and with a name and it's not for long anyway, so drag Jamie in quickly like when Mollie was off" I don't think it's simply people moaning on twitter this time, it's the AUDIENCE commenting on instagram and the INDUSTRY (plenty of people in creative ind) on twitter saying how unwelcome this move is.
  24. Totally agree with this. If you try too hard to target a market that isn't coming through, you just lose everyone. I bet that Capital isn't bang on its target either so it won't just be r1, but they shouldn't lose sight of the fact (and a few people have said it above) that if that new listener isn't there or there's less of them, maybe its time to move the target up slightly. I've looked at capitals daytime line up and you're right, they're all mid 30s+ minus roman who is 32. It's even more important to retain the top end of the audience if the bottom end are just going to tiktok, no matter what you do. All radio has left, especially Radio 1, is to be entertaining and relatable as that's something streaming can't do.
