  1. I think had Danny been booked as a one off or co-host for only a weekends worth of shows it would’ve been fine. I can see how Aled would want to book them to show commitment to supporting queer and non-binary talent from the queer community and culture scene. But over the years of take-overs there are many good talented LGBTQ+ in the radio industry. Just want to politely remind that their pronouns are they/them.
  2. Airing old Top Gear, Masterchef, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of crisps, Gavin and Stacey re-runs of the Gladiators and The Apprentice. Atleast most of its tv output I dont see BBC Three as much of a youth channel as a Gen Z’er. I think when it comes to its terrestrial channel output it will become smaller choice of channels and think the flagship channels could go back to how they started as the main BBC One as showcase of the BBC at its best and if it were down to me I’d have the Mercury Prize and the Proms on BBC One with BBC Two being the extra station and with it being less generational dividies. I dont see why they cant put live coverage of Big Weekend and other events that Radio 1 cover across BBC One in more prime time positions not late and off-peak.
  3. If people want music content they have the option of BBC Two and it has worked well for BBC Four to host repeats of Top Of The Pops. I feel with the demise of music channels on television. There’s only a small volume of hours a major tv network could dedicate for music content to make a sustainable audience to give a sense of value to its commission. If even looking at the Radio 1 IPlayer channel they don’t feature all the latest live lounges for videos and for those who wish to watch performances are likely to go to youtube. I do think the BBC should be a culture passport to showcase unique and original content but think it should be apart of the flagship channels.
  4. Yes, and although how much I do love BBC radio many radio devices within my house have only been able to recieve BBC DAB stations and not its commercial third party rivals. I think it comes down to size and reach of audiences and something that ahead of the next BBC charter review. There maybe enquiries into where do radio 1 listeners listen to the station and looking at the size of FM listening to see the future of FM.
  5. I had the feeling and knew before hand that bringing BBC Three wouldn’t work going back on terrestrial linear broadcast again after its initial closure in 2016. As the audience that it was targeting in the 00s and early 10s now become the working adult generation that BBC One and Two now are to cater for. Most people craved the nostalgia from the programming it had years ago which can get across varying BBC owned networks and on IPlayer and UKTV Pay and in cases due to the legacy of BritBox ITVX. There wasn’t enough new BBC Three content to merit opening the channel back on TV and not enough new stuff being commissioned now most nights it’s littered with repeats and the IPlayer section designated feels sparse and features lot of international series like of The Traitors. They could’ve continued with having the post ten o’clock news on BBC One showcasing content commissioned for young adults as had done when BBC Three was a BBC IPlayer channel exclusively.
  6. I do think BBC Three needs to go back off air yet again and maybe the BBC should consider scrapping the brand and creating a new brand for programming that targets young and diverse audiences under 40 who are seen as digital natives with consideration of adopting more clear guidance of age-ratings and audience suitability communications which could make documentaries on misogyny, mental health and like Jordan North’s new vaping doc with taking out older programmes of two pints of larger and packet of crisps out of that section and making it easier to include CBBC programming under a new brand. I think Radio 1 could easily go off FM by 2027 and focus on DAB or most importantly BBC Sounds and digital content and maybe making way for the BBC to potentially replace that with a rebrand of 5 Live’s remit of live rolling news coverage and sport that isn’t provided by Radio 4. In future see FM as something that will be most of use for essential and urgent information.
  7. I wonder if it could be closing in mid-summer in few weeks to months when they can make a public announcement on the new proposed digital stations and the switch over of the changes in daytime programmes. The announcement of decommissioning the online station and brand was done very quietly through confirmation from Jess Izsatt’s post on X. Yet to be a further press release confirming such details of whether certain programmes apart of the brand like Power Down Playlist. Maybe likely working through the contracts of programmes agreed by presenters and producers commissioned to make Radio 1 Relax content and developing and working on commissioning new programmes that would fill scheduling gaps.
  8. I think you made the point I can only but agree with you. I knew you weren’t trying to personally highlighting certain artists in a negative tone but using them to make a greater point that needed to be made in regards to biases in the selection of new artists or not as chart dominant. But it’s something that when comes to artists and tracks supported on ‘Future’ and specialist programmes it doesn’t really trickle and feed down to the A-C daytime schedule which is where big impact is made. I think if they do complete the consultation phase and it proves a success to go through with being able to launch an ‘Anthems’ station focusing on music of the 00’s and the 10’s. At that point it should be time to consider extending the amount of songs in its playlist. Hopefully then the flagship to the ‘1’ brand can reflect more of new music featuring new artists in it’s playlist when have a station under the brand that plays music preceding the last five years.
  9. I do like Cat Burns but it’s a good point about the many artists on future artists and other specialist shows. If they manage to launch the ‘Anthems’ like sister station hope they make changes to the stations playlist.
  10. Yes, the length of the time on the station does help as with Annie Mac she did what dance specialist DJs kind of get a bit more favourability with the evening listeners who start out on something specialist. With Annie Mac she did years on dance before going to the flagship new music specialist programme with giving opportunities to new DJs and curating the playlist and having something different from Clara’s more music daytime show where she had to work with the playlist. Had she done more time doing a specialist show later on in the schedule it may have oddly made the moment bigger. Think sometimes what has helped create such a unique sound in presenters and personalities like Annie Mac, Jack and Grimmy for example starting out doing a late show with looser format. Think for the next Jack, Annie and Clara’s of the station do need to have a late live slot and do hope when radio 1 relax is shut down that maybe they change the power down playlist for something with bit more freedom.
  11. She is a good broadcaster no doubts but am of the same page with feelings mutual.
  12. They probably will announce it within next week and expect for the first month that Global may use its digital billboards and screens It owns across the country to display some promotional messaging for Jordan’s breakfast show and launch a marketing campaign around it.
  13. Bit different when think everything ABBA should be Radio 2 territory
  14. I’m not sold on the new name.
  15. I agree think having more live or original presenter driven programmes across the night schedule would be good I’d potentially allow Jaguar to have an extended time slot somewhere in the schedule. I wouldn’t want Arielle to be on a 1 am timeslot for her radio show and something she could easily do if Danny Howard could step down. I’d decide to scrap the Dance Anthems on Radio 1 saturday drive and move ‘Dance Anthems’ to Radio 2 creating a new ‘Radio 1 Party Starter’ show on saturday afternoons with new and classic pop/dance/indie/rap tracks curated with listener recommendations. I’d also have overnight the more niche and specialist stuff and have Tiffany Calver return to 1 with Casskid joining.
  16. I assume the either Easter Monday or the Tuesday afterwards. With Global unless it is an unplanned departure they tend to just replace straight away.
  17. Yes, feel like a mess very inconsistent it got the energy of a random computer folder with miscilanious bits and bobs. Think they need to have a BBC Y or BBC Fresh brand on IPlayer or something that feels youthful to collate that brand of content specific to the 12-30 approx age-ranges or possibly get rid of having BBC One, Two, Three and Four category folders and exclusively using the channels names featuring in the IPlayer programming schedule guide and live-stream options.
  18. I doubt it. I do think they do have a good idea with the Global Player visualisation in the app. I think they need to look at simplifying the app design for Global Player as it looks bit messy and cluttered. If they had a separate app for LBC and news based content and the text articles that would help simplifying the user interface. But they do need to consider allowing people to watch the live lounge live as it goes out. It doesnt need to be on the app but could just be on facebook, instagram, X and TikTok. They could decide to just start by doing more YouTube videos uploading some of the interviews Clara or Jack does with music and non-live lounge session videos to visualising some of Matt V. Mollie features.
  19. I mean doing a 24 hour feed on 5Live wouldn’t attract many viewers which makes sense that’s they closed it as it is in a nutshell what Talk TV is and they wouldn’t attract many viewers. I know they simulcast Nicky Campbell’s radio show on BBC News. I think it would be too expensive to do. But visualisation of extra content Radio 1 wise could I think expand the Newsbeat and Lifehacks stuff across radio 1 socials. Whilst we wouldn’t want social media influencers taking to Radio 1 airwaves but I wonder if they could hire social media content creators who to the stations social media content production and communications and those who produce multi-media podcasting content to market and promote live radio features and expand on air programmes and features. It was much in the pre BBC Sounds where they offered more live-streams, visual and innovative multi-media content and where Radio 1 had their own unique webpage design. I think there needs to be as the BBC will focus on more digital mediums targeting younger generations. I wonder if they could look at creating a unified brand for the content exported on Radio 1, CBBC and BBC Three that can be a brand that binds elements of the BBC together.
  20. I can only assume since no more further details of the causation of his death haven’t been published his death must’ve been non suspicious. He was very private around his personal circumstances and think this is what must be remembered and respected.
  21. Fair point. Their first album came out the year I was born. Then again when Foo Fighters were releasing music for a long time when they headlined before.
  22. Suspect that in coming weeks we could hear new music and new album announcement from Coldplay. It’s goid that they managed to book Vampire Weekend great name to have for the line-up and one I’ll definately be watching on IPlayer so will with CMAT, Everything Everything and Coldplay.
  23. They may have had issues filling the festival up I’m thinking at least any indie/rock bands and artists may be turned off from the festival as last years Royal Blood audience was less than enthusiastic that pissed them off. I do think they could’ve had both Raye and Charli on the main stage taking place of either Griff, Aitch and Joel Corry as think Charli currently in the peak of her career.
  24. Foals is the headliner and main performers a station like Radio 1 should have. I hope we eventually have a British band like them headline the pyramid stage of a festival like Glastonbury. Nothing But Thieves or even Paramore could make for an additional good choices for the line-up hope they have a decent headline making names to announce for the sunday of the New Music and Main Stage closing performances. The fact theres only two six performers per stage on the days does make it hard to give it a big sell and obvious that some cuts have been made to this years festival.
  25. Agreed, it feels very light there’s only Charli XCX and Raye I’d watch on IPlayer. They tend to do good with fitting it in to its demographic and sometimes as this hints younger than the daytime presenters target towards. It’s a more of a diet small portion of what they used to squeeze in on one day.
