  1. I feel it could happen soon as whether its Capital, Kiss and Hits Radio. I can I see the past few years of poaching has looked at Radio 2 with exodus of Claudia, Graham Norton, Chris Evans, Ken Bruce and Simon Mayo to put a few names down think networks will look at the market south of the over fifties demographics and look who they can snag from 1 Xtra and Radio 1.
  2. I think these days people seem to switch in and out of different stations anyway.
  3. It’s Sam & Danni on drive next week.
  4. Wonder if Katie Thistleton and Arielle Free would be given any reassurance about their careers and that they would be able to be considered for promotions at the station.
  5. I think Jack Saunders would be a more wildcard than Dean and would be a gamble that would play off allowing the breakfast show kmaube to be playing fresh new music and giving space to reinvent the space of the breakfast show. Had it been that Greg James left yesterday and effectively say I wont be returning and serving my notice Matt & Mollie would likely have spent few months potentially until August or September in the job. Dean McCullough seems that if Aled were to be the person to select the next breakfast host of who he’d likely try to go for. I think it would be absolutely the right opportunity to retain Katie would have her do breakfast show it. Since now it’s been 20 years since the last female breakfast show host it would be good to have a a non male host to take over the show.
  6. There’s that I mean I’m 23 and like listening to Jazz, The Beatles, Nina Simone stuff like that but for the older stuff theres stations out there for older music and again its one of those things when if my generation Gen Z now Gen A want to play the stuff that our parents and grandparents like that we’ve heard and liked we can easily search in a decade or genre on our preferred music streaming service and hit play or for the nostalgic trend of vinyls quite popular with people my age buy the album and play it. I do love having thousands of thousands of songs at hand but find for Radio 1 where its comes at handy as most of us point out is for the artists who we might not be able to find much about and not familiar with.
  7. I think this is so true and think inevitably think trying to fighting the TikTok audience by just replicating the entertainment and music that is popular on TikTok is not how you are going to win the audience over as they just get it from TikTok. Think for the social media accounts of Radio 1 think go ahead and make content appealing and engaging with that audience maybe with behind the scenes stuff and extra bonus content and ‘off air’ stuff with the presenters produced by content creators. I think its in the nature of a station like Kiss or Capital now to go for the stuff that is popular and trending on TikTok but Radio 1 is fine without that and definitely hit the mark acts like Wet Leg, Arlo Parks, The Last Dinner Party and such maybe could’ve done different examples have proven popular for what could be listened to across the generations. I think the point has been made with presenters like Dan. P Carter, Pete Tong are still at the station playing new music and giving artists their first play when they surpass the demographic of Radio 1 and how Annie Nightingale in her late seventies to early eighties were bigging up Billie Eilish and Little Simz and got Grace and G Easy back in 2016 their airplay with You Don’t Own Me. Clubbing point shows how Radio 2 play a lot of dance pop now its what people are nostalgic for now in the 80s the 90s Ibiza holidays acid house going to illegal raves and what not. The ages of Tiesto and David Guetta are getting on a bit and not exactly youthful but still putting out pop-dance tunes and DJing and Wayne Lineker facilitating club nights for the next generation of ravers.
  8. I do find myself sometimes finding stuff from its playlists that they curate. I least know with Apple Music its a hybrid of human curation and algorithm and for the lesser played genres on radio like world, jazz and other genres the playlists do help find stuff and makes things convienient an do like Matt Wikinson on Apple Music 1. Bit as you say shows like Future Sounds, Artists and all the other specialist stuff that BBC Radio 1 to 1 Xtra, 6 Music etc. are music radio at its best and definately a one of the good ways to find new music and new artists and get a good feel for what is good and the history and the story behind music and the artists. I find Huw Stephens has proven this with his new 6 music show doing segments on DIY music scene, record stores and musicology.
  9. I definately think the quota of what type of station it should be and the focus on new music station would be a draw to the station for someone like myself to listen much more regularly. I think there needs to be a bit of a look at what does the station want to be and do?
  10. What I will say he isn’t responsible to the stations representation would only be legitimately affected if it was something that reprehensible occurred and know that would’nt be the case. If he did decide to leave the station knowing it’s something that it would eventually happen should be able to deal and manage with a departure of the stations most senior names.
  11. Personally have found Greg James’ breakfast show not listenable for me and couldn’t enjoy it as much as his drive time. Think James needs to leave on his own terms and it should be when he thinks it’s best for his own career to go and that this news doesn’t mean that Greg wont go. It shouldn’t be seen as that as he hasn’t done any damage to the station and is a presenter who turns up for his three hours and half an hour weekdays and presents his show it would be wrong to suggest it would be him leaving it in worse shape. He doesn’t get to make the decisions.
  12. You can still comment. But possibly that comments have died down or sometimes filtered out as when there are platitudes of comments it’s harder to find the newer ones. I think it would be the right call inevitably the commercial radio sector is something that is a growing market and Global through marketing and lucrative advertising and sponsorship deals are ensure that a healthy revenue is coming to the company and expect it to expand more into podcasting and other media to the success of LBC and other popular brands that it owns. With the BBC it’s in a bit of a troubling and uncertain time for the corporation where things are expected to get austere as already have to BBC local and its newsroom services. Richard Osman on his Rest Is Entertainment has described the broadcaster as effectively skint and its’s that that baffled me with the announcements about the radio services proposed for DAB+. I thought there literally had no money to create more stations. I think for some the unclear foggy direction where it’s unclear what BBC are going to cut and spend next and only a month or two go there was an article in the i newspaper circling around that any changes to the liscense fee and the organisations funding radio could be the first to go. I think right now the long game is less of an issue for presenters.
  13. It would’ve been nice to hear Alice on the radio again. I also miss having Phil Taggart on the radio he’s a superb presenter and hope he returns with something big on radio in the future.
  14. Also he was one of the ones that do something that is hard to do make the mundane entertaining he has quite a charming and amusing delivery. I can’t imagine many presenters making ‘’picky teas’ or what you having for your tea, something so basic quite amusing that listeners interact with and the listeners really managed to convince and prove to him that this is good radio that they enjoy. He has that mates in the pub casual conversation that made it work and it’s all how you talk to a listener and he has many good stories to tell them. Really liked the stories he had to tell when he was on sunday mid mornings.
  15. Although he has been on the station for some years atleast regularly since 2016 still felt he was getting started but hope that he continues to have a place if it is capital he can show his potential. With Steve Wright he had the perfect amount of time to have a crack at showing how he does it and what it is to make an impact on radio and on listeners. I preferred Greg on drive to Breakfast had it if I tune into Saturday Live podcast his presenting stint I probably enjoy hearing him on that but think sometimes certain times and shows due to our personal preferences we prefer a presenter doing it.
  16. Oddly, I think that might be the place where it could keep some of its older listeners whilst keeping bringing new ones in it’s a slightly more mainstream 6 Music in terms of programming. I as a listener would be interested to hear what Jack Saunders sounds like full time with Future Sounds and the stuff tributing Annie Nightingale reminded me how good the stations specialist programming is Indie Show, Benji B, Future Soul and Future Pop even is very good. And is where presenters tend to last longer and build audiences and hope that more overnight stuff eventually goes back of having that more specialist stuff as that would bring me back to the station.
  17. I think if Katie was offered a big programme like breakfast or drive to be the Sara Cox to sweep in to fill any Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley like shoes with Jamie and Vick if it goes as listeners commented as a flop. I think that she deserves something otherwise I wouldn’t be surprised if she got bored of waiting and not being promoted and take a better offer. To me if the station is trying to steady itself and work on it’s own identity and trying to work on things think it might not be the best time to look to do the 00s and 10s service.
  18. Yes, think that Jordan North would ever it to happen could fit in right in to Radio X if years down the line he were to join that station. I think that eventually that potentially that the names that they could have to introduce is James Cusack, Lauren Layfield, Yinka Bokinni and Oré Olukoga as been used more than once for cover as of recently but think definitely there could be some couples split up and introduction of Maia Beth and Nels Hylton doing more music programmes. But, I feel that come this summer there maybe a shuffle of presenters being announced for the autumn and if there are presenters getting better offers and feel like not getting best deal maybe departures. I know with the Radio 1 Relax stream being decommissioned they will also have to look at how they fill the hours overnight that the programming for that service filled on the schedule.
  19. Think the radio 1 bosses will be only able to do so much. He seems to be working on other works of podcasting, broadcasting and after six years he may fancy a change and go out in a high and not stay through a rough patch for the station. One thing I’m still baffled at is that the BBC are expected to have to make more cuts this year yet they are promising new stations. I kind of wonder how long that Greg can sort of assimilate to an audience of in the flagship show on the national youth station can credibly relate and discuss things to the 18 and under demographic any college sixth formers or GCSEs students who Greg could be the father of. I know it’s something that Scott Mills managed to do for decades on the station and could’ve kept going through to the point where he would be getting leaflets through the door for life insurance. It’s good he defied ageism. It helped that he never wore the crown of the breakfast show permanently. Youth stations like Radio 1, Kiss and Capital FM are unlike any others when at a point of time where you expect to step down after a couple of years as hogging the slot and think Greg may have sense with that.
  20. He mst certainly could appeal to a young audience but he had multi-generational reach as his She can be right on many of things and this is most certainly one of them this isn’t go down well. It seems to be. I don’t think Aled Haydn Jones’s era hasn’’t been a success it could’ve been the Christmas new talent take overs has proven strongly worked and so does the introduction of the ‘Future’ brand of programmes. But I do feel that the station needs a change of director.
  21. Think when next chance anything opens up it would be good move and would be good to have a daytime radio 1 national show to ne out of England permanently for the first time. I think they are more keen to use Cardiff studios for stuff.
  22. Think listeners could’ve preferred someone like Katie Thistleton. Think with Jamie Laing think adds to the argument that BBC are too often going for television personalities and celebrities over radio presenters. It’s odd to go for a celebrity that doesn’t feel that relatable to many listeners with a background of a posh Londoner when compared to Jordan very down to earth fairly young and from northern working class background. I do feel that if Katie isn’t promoted soon she could be the next name the station loses by giving her something. James Cusack I wouldn’t include him yet as he isn’t on the pay roll think both Danny Howard and Sara Storie are from the north.
  23. I do remember around the same time he was touted to be the next host of Heart breakfast by tabloids like The Sun. But maybe in a year or so if he isn’t enjoying radio 2 as much he could be persuaded to move and quite possibly reunite with Chris Stark and be offered a podcast and deal where they can have more freedom interms of content they’d wish to produce as features they did on radio 1 was good for clicks and views and think a commercial station would look for that.
  24. If Scott would join a Global station it would be Heart I’d imagine. He is most certainly more loyal to the BBC and may not fancy doing the competitions and commercial. He is on a salary which he most certainly would be happy with but it would be a good poach for him on Heart and think I’d rather have Heart on over radio 2 daytimes.
  25. But seems to be a P.R mess up if they stated that only a few hours ago when they announced that he was to leave and his last show would air early march. They should’ve pre-determined any conflict of interests if there were any ahead of the P.R public statement. If the BBC knowingly released the statement at the time that he had presented his last show after an agreed conflict of interest the statement should’ve reflected that he had already presented his last show which is uncommon from any press release. The fact is they seemed to falsely state a conflict in decision making.
