That's what I assumed the 'rationale' to be, too. Unfortunately, she'll often go on to add insult to injury by mentioning the key information (i.e. artist name!) as a throwaway mumble at the end! Unless you've got a device which shows you the tracks being played (and maybe that's an automatic assumption also, on her part), you're gonna miss it ...

At first, I thought CA was a fine replacement for Annie Mac, at least in terms of not seeming to take herself so seriously. Over time, however, there is just something about the tone of voice she employs (on 80% of her links) that's really started to grate.
I've been struggling to describe this in a way that someone who has never heard it might get - My best effort for now is - Imagine someone having to speak-up at a noisy Wedding Reception, so the DJ can hear what she is requesting him to play - Not only that, but with a rising inflexion which hangs in the air just long enough to suggest either that she thinks the DJ is a bit slow-on-the-uptake, or that he is an Australian, and that's her way of trying to ingratiate herself with him.
That she chooses to speak in this way is demonstrated by this latest Glastonbury trailer, in which she does none of the above - i.e. there is a pleasing touch of 'bass' in her voice every time she is about to reach a punctuation point : https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0frf1zb/bbc-trailers-glastonbury

Adele already pushing her luck with singles off the '30' album, then??

At what point does a new release from a well-established artist get automatically deemed 'old hat'?
-
Again, the first two-hander between Riley & Coe last night was a delight ...
.. I'm already gravitating back to Huw Stephens for early evening, though ...

... Do find that BBC has a problem with having so many of their new music shows overlapping on the airwaves like Future Sounds and Future Artists overlap and Radio 2’s show that has more new music than others ...
Not forgetting Huw Stephens on Radio Wales!
I'm running with this 'Menu', for the time being:
M-T-W 7pm-8pm: R1
M-T 8pm-9pm 6Music
W 8pm-9pm Radio Wales
Th 7pm-8pm: R4 Extra
Th 8pm-9pm: R1

Marc Riley was an absolute triumph on the 'new' 6Music show last night (from 10pm) - Also strangely comforting to hear 'Lard' back on the Graveyard shift ...

I didn't realise Virgin played pop music from the last few decades ...
There is a fair range of oldie to more recent. The great 'Weekends' by Freya Ridings gets a good airing, for example (something that GHR wouldn't go near). Only complaint is that the 'oldie' selections need varying more - I've never heard any other Michael Jackson record than 'Black Or White' on there, for instance ....
And whilst we're talking about Ricky Wilson - He's really under-whelming on his own - He was great when he had Gaby Roslin to bounce off ....
-
Been catching some of NG on Virgin, and he's way more eloquent & engaging than I remember him being, in the last few years on R1 ...

I can’t see virgin giving him a full time show where would he go as Rick Wilson is doing drive and. Nortan is on at weekends
A feature-heavy spot from 9am to 11am might be interesting ,,,

I was happy catching Ken Bruce on R2 10am-11am - Turns out now that his GHR show is a markedly inferior beast, and that Vernon Kay has been better than most of us expected. Hence my 'more likely' vote ...

Meant to post this weeks but agreed on most of that, Nick Abbott wasn't on Virgin in 2015. What old codger fan meant was Virgin 1215....
Ouch! - Well-spotted typo!

Apart from 'schedule changes', which thread has rumbled on the longest?
-
Is it too much to hope that he gets paired-up with Annie Mac?
-
Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge what a superb job Vernon Kay has made of the 'new' slot - Far exceeded my expectations. Also very wisely 'feature'-heavy - I don't think there's any other light-entertainment show elsewhere on the radio which can hold a candle to this ...

Jack is in for Clara on Monday 22nd May. Sian is in for Jack.
Again, weirdly, making both shows more listenable ...

Expecting Vernon to have a few weeks of hate chucked at him and then it will settle. I don't see Ken Bruce going too long at GH, the hype has now died and the endless adverts will turn people away.
Apart from the easy money (and, who knows, that might be the primary motive), KB has f***ed this up big time, the way he's gone about things ... Vernon's show has way more going for it, already ...

Very strong start from Vernon Kay on R2 - Upbeat, without straying into camp or high-pitched ..

WC 15th May: Gary Davies sits in for Zoe
Sun 14th May: Emma Willis sits in for Michael Ball
Sun 22nd May: Alex Jones sits in for Michael Ball, Samantha Barks sits in for Elaine Page
Weds 10th May: Edith Bowman sits in for Jo Whiley
Wow, that's quite a lot of shows which have suddenly become listenable!!

I'm quite enthused about the new pairings announced for the evenings, as from June - Deb Grant & Tom Ravenscroft / Marc Riley & Gideon Coe ...
Will be interesting to see how the general 'feel' of these shows compare to the other options out there, in terms of a place to go to discover new tunes ...
-
Intrusion of adverts (which could be absent at least for the first hour) and too-stale & predictable music selections really make it a weaker 'sequel', for me ... I know neither of these things come as a surprise, but point stands ...

Opinions on Ken Bruce show yesterday??
I thought it was a shadow of it's former self.

I love listening to Greg but he will make jokes or comments about the songs and weird lyrics or the stupid edits like the Mario one, the same presenter but with each station having its own playlists gets rid of that ...
Thank you for your response ... Just as a point of clarity, I would have one 'merged' playlist on at Breakfast ...

Herein lies the problem. Straining too hard to whip up enthusiasm can have the opposite effect.
