  1. Yeah I don’t mind Dean at all on his own, I think his Breakfast cover has been pretty listenable when he’s done it and I think he could have done a pretty good content heavy afternoon show on his own.

Unfortunately the Dean and Vicky pairing just isn’t working (and I do like Vicky too, I think she sounds good on her own as well) and the production on that show is very weak which just ends up with a very poor afternoon show currently.

  2. I wonder if Lauren Layfield will play a major role at some point this year too? If she has signed for radio 1 which seems like a strong possibility, they surely must have promised her some kind of major show for her to leave Capital’s Early Breakfast show?

I do wonder if her and Katie together somewhere might be an option? Not sure I can see it being Breakfast but definitely somewhere else on the schedule

  3. I do wonder who will actually want to present Monday’s going home - I can’t imagine it will be an easy show to try and do. The names I suggested yesterday of Arielle and Sam and Danni are already both on earlier in the day (so is Matt) and with Katie being on holiday, the only person I can see doing it is Nat?

  4. I’m a bit surprised that Vick has stayed too. I thought that if Jordan went, she would go with him really and then have a whole new line up at drive.

It’s a shame the Vick and Jordan (and Katie) partnership only lasted a couple of years because it was by far my favourite on radio 1

  5. I think the tributes over the last few days have been perfect especially in the immediate aftermath by Sara Cox - she is a very special broadcaster to be able to continue presenting in the way she did. It was lovely to hear Greg’s tribute even if there’s many R1 listeners who wouldn’t have heard Steve’s show before. Every time I hear his closing theme now, I think it’s going to get me.

  6. Which DJs have been working from home? I know Vick broadcasts from a studio at broadcasting house so not at home and the only one I remember recently broadcasting from home was Matt one weekend and I’m assuming that was a one off because it’s not happened since?

  7. I think if there’s one thing that they’re not going to do to save money is start simulcasting 1xtra shows again, I think that’s been made very clear in the past couple of years with changing Saturday nights, and changing the one show that is simulcast across both stations (rap show) to be radio 1 branded rather than 1xtra.

I do agree that we might not see anymore new duos now though. I think it would start to seem a bit too many if there’s more than there currently are.

  8. Oooh good topic!

I’ve voted for ‘Going Home’ and ‘Matt and Mollie.’ I think both of those shows sound very fresh, always absolutely full of content and both duos bounce off each other very well (and I’ll include Katie in Going Home too since she’s a big part of it).

I think Greg is still sounding great, but maybe coming towards the end of his time on breakfast, same with Arielle on early breakfast too - is a very good presenter but how long will she really want to keep doing early starts for.

I’d say RMC is the most improved show of the year, having listened more in the last few weeks, it now has some new features, it seems like they get more time to talk in the links and altogether it just feels a bit less rushed and more what I would have expected their show to be like from the beginning.

Dean and Vicky I very rarely listen to now - I don’t think they’re an awful pairing but they don’t gel together particularly well and I think it’s quite telling when I prefer Vicky with any other co-host and Dean presenting on his own. I also think the production and features on the show feels quite cheap, especially coming after Scott Mills.

I think weekends are pretty solid though, at the moment I wouldn’t change any of the presenters there. Katie (and Matt and Mollie) deserve promotions at some point, when and where they will come from, I’m not sure.

Hallelujah finally. Also 4 hours for 40 songs interesting

I assume it will be 100 songs and they’ll skip over some of them to play about 65 in the end!

Even on a 3 hour show nowadays it’s usually around 48 songs and that’s with content wrapped around it

I really enjoy listening to Nat on a Sunday morning such an easy listen. However i am not a bit surprised they have already dropped the second hour of Radio 1 00s for Radio 1 10s. Just annoys me abit that they assume everyone who listens to Radio 1 was born in the 2010s. I dunno might just be old man 33yr old me showing my age? What do you guys think?

Honestly I think it might be you showing your age a bit, I’m sorry to say. I’m 20 so right in the middle of radio 1’s 15-24 target demographic and so I was born in 2002. I wasn’t actively listening to and enjoying music until the late 2000’s, early 2010’s so I think Radio 1 10’s sounds right on brand and the type of thing Radio 1 should be doing. Ever since it started I have thought that 00’s has sounded a bit old for the station.
