There are going to be some major changes to the BBC Radio 1Xtra schedule from January as announced yesterday.

Trevor Nelson moves to weekends at 4pm-7pm. Saturday's will be dedicated to current RnB while Sunday's will all be about classic RnB. Ace moves from weekend breakfast (6am-10am) to Trevor Nelson's slot at weekdays, 10am-12:45pm and will be taking over the Live Lounge. Mim Shaikh is going to be the new weekend breakfast show host on Saturday/Sunday at 6am-10am. Twin B will host a Monday night show from 10pm-1am. DJ Target now permanently replaces MistaJam's Monday-Thursday night slot at 7pm-10pm, he will continue to host the Friday/Saturday night shows. Monki retains her very early Sunday show from 1am-4am. Opinions are welcome on these changes. For me, I find it weird that Twin B is going to a nightly show....

The production is fairly epic on this package. I agree with the above - the previous breakfast show imaging was lacklustre to say the least, especially when the Wise Buddah orchestral theme was dropped (perhaps the contract to use it expired...?).
In the best possible way it is all a bit KISS or Capital but for a while they've sounded much slicker than R1 so it's no bad thing. Excellent effort.

Radio 1 is on fire recently with imaging. First Cel's new shows, now this! 
This is a thousand times better than the old imaging, the old breakfast show imaging sounded very old-deers like and didn't sound like something that should be sounded on a breakfast show. Some new ID's creeping in as well which is giving a further teaser into the new main imaging.

I'm here for the ride guys! 
Brilliant to hear that we are getting closer to a full package of new imaging is coming. Based on what we have been hearing, it looks like the V2 NMF voiceovers will be taking over full time and the 'Where It Begins' tagline will remain. Hopefully we stick to one set of voiceovers rather than a mix of the three we are hearing so far. Cel's show has had some fantastic new imaging rolled in with the new voiceovers in it, some of it sounds very commercial/Capital like but it doesn't matter because they are amazing.
On the subject of the voiceovers, I've identified that one of the new voiceovers is Rachelle Abbott who is the voiceover on the Residency show. I haven't identified the rest of the V2 voiceovers though, I think 3 of them are new while one of them sounds like a female voiceover from the 2012-14 package.
2017 sounds like the year of #WhereNewVoiceoversBegin!  

I'm no expert at controls at R1, but for me it sounds like the TOTH/BOTH songs are pre-mixed on a Friday and the DJ's only have to press one button to play those three songs. Weekends however seems like a mix of one-piece pre-mixed songs and some where the DJ's have to press a button for each song.
I've noticed R1 have started using shorter power intros for some songs, 'Shout Out To My Ex' and a redone 'Sweet Lovin' power intros come to my mind.

I see that Cel Spellman's show is being screwed around with from this week. The Number 1 Show is no more with it being replaced with R1 Most Played from 6pm and there is a brand new show called R1's Best New Pop.
I wonder what everyone thinks of this? Personally I really don't think we need yet another most played show as we already have one for the evening show, quite like the idea about R1's Best New Pop show although wouldn't it be better for any other DJ on R1 just to play all this stuff? Think Cel's show is a waste of time really...

It all just seems rather random. I have noticed a lot of missed opportunities to use the intros lately.

Has anyone noticed the fact that some of the new/redone power intros are debuted on a weekend rather than a Friday, Last saturday I heard a redone power intro of Ex's & Oh's which I never heard on any of the Friday's. It seems odd that they are debuting these on a weekend when normally Friday is the first place to hear these.

All this talk of making the target audience higher, lower etc... but what are you all hoping would happen, music taste is different in ever human alive,  some R1 presenters are way over the TA but are still there, to me, you either like radio 1 for the music and presenters or you don't, go over to radio x if you want some rock  

Well considering that PURE Jingles seems to think it's in-house and the job description on the BBC seems to back it up, so it looks like it's more of a in-house move..
I suppose it would be expensive for an outsource production to produce, but at the same I would have thought it would be just as expensive for the BBC to produce a package, although you are probably right about having a smaller team. I suppose that would save costs a bit.
It also mentions 'Dance Anthems With Greg James'. Is that getting new imaging as well or am I looking too much into it? I would have also thought that if Greg's DA's shows would get new imaging I would have thought Danny Howard's show would get them as well?

Greg James' Dance Anthems show is actually pre mixed by station sound/music teams and split into sections a few songs long which give Greg (or Dev when he's in) spaces to talk, so i would assume it's probably making those pre mixes!

I've had a listen through Friday's shows and it's not Holly Meyrick on the vocals, so it must be someone new!

Have you noticed for a number of songs you'll hear a highly-produced intro,  and a few days later it gets dropped for a boring version? Ellie Goulding's new song for example - the original had an auto-tuned Ellie saying her name but it's since been replaced with a generic voiceover. Alice Levine mentioned on air she wasn't happy about that one actually.
It seems they're testing new sounds and voices out, dropping parts that don't work along the way. Perhaps when a sound is settled on we'll hear things on a more permanent basis.
Also heard an intro yesterday that had 'Where It Begins' mixed in. I sort of figured that slogan was getting phased out but maybe not.

I made a montage of my favourite power intros cause they are bloody brilliant. Best ones are John Newman and Phillip George imo.

Interesting to see a visual package for the first time in a while for R1... Also some new sounds mixed in here as well so looks like this is the future direction for PURE Jingles

I believe in some of the power intros there was the odd 'IT'S FRIIIDAY' mentions but yeah, no direct mentions to New Music Friday.
Just to clarify with the new package rolling out this year, I assume Newsbeat and the Charts would have some updates as well to it's imaging? I remember during the 'Listen, Watch, Share' era of Newsbeat that when the new package fully launched the only change that it had was the updated voiceovers and nothing else if I'm correct?

I hope so, would be a bit of a waste if they just used it for Friday although I did hear the new jingles on Adele Roberts and Grimmy's show without the 'New Music Friday' and 'FRIDAYY!!!' imaging so maybe we will hear everyday rather than just Friday. 

I listened to Early Breakfast with Adele this morning, and the vocals for My Tune Monday on the Resident Dj feature have been voiced by someone new, not one of the current 4. I'm waiting to see if tomorrows has been voiced by them too! This makes me think we're due a change soon, maybe!

One of the current voiceovers tweeted on Tuesday to say he was away to record some more voiceovers for Radio 1,  so unless he plays a part in any new package I don't think they'll be changing anytime soon.

I guess we're not exactly sure if these signal a whole new package or if they're just for this New Music Friday thing.
I actually think two of the voiceovers are from the 2012-2014 era.
