  1. I certainly hope so, I wouldn't like to be doing a show at 9pm only to have to do another show at 4am the next day.
  2. Oh I know someone like that, very nice woman but a bit deluded when it comes to celebrity and style/fashion. I mentioned these kinds of magazines to her 1 day when we were talking and she said she has to keep up to date with what her favourite celebrities are up to. God only knows what she will do if The Only Way Is Essex becomes a regular weekly program, she already thinks its super stylish Coincidently, to quote Jimmy Carr: "its not the only way, there is a better way"
  3. I'm about to change jobs (driving test permitting) and its not really felt that strange till today. My manager mentioned at work this morning that this may well be my last week, and its only now started to feel very real. Having said that i'm becoming increasingly nervous about the theory test as well. I was told i have training for a week then have to sit it. I've not touched anything on hazard perception simply because i don't know what cdroms are up to date. I assume the hazards will be similar for a bus as to a car, but with the obvious extras like bridges/tunnels and narrow roads thrown in. I just keep having to try and remind myself that the personel department have told me that its only a small percentage of drivers don't actually make it through their training.
  4. I think what Viv is getting it at is, like it or not, people in the public eye can and do become role models, particularly for the young. While people you or I know might not necessarily do something just because a famous person does, there are those out there who will be encouraged by what they see someone else doing. However I agree with you that the weak minded are the ones more likely to fall into taking things (at least I assume thats what your point was). For the most part I disagreed with what Chris was saying on the radio this morning. Ok it will be sad for her friends, family, and fans, and he was right in saying that it was an addiction which isn't as easy to deal with as a lot of people think. My problem which he, and many, fail to pick up on is this; Yes she had an addiction which will not have been easy to kick, but if someone genuinely wants to kick a habbit or addiction (drugs, drink, gambling, smoking etc) they do their very best to take themselves out of the environment which is causing their temptations. If that means distancing yourself from friends and places then if it is for the good of your health then so be it. I may be wrong, but because she seemed to keep getting back into her old ways this suggests to me that she didn't have the willpower to say no. Not only that, we all know the dangerous assosciated with various addiction forming activities, such as the ones I mentioned above. Of all of them drugs are by far the most discussed, and widely known to be dangerous. Anyone taking drugs knows the risks and dangerous involved, they do not go into it with their eyes closed. She knew what she was getting herself into.
  5. i don't know so much about Scott, but i know of people who are happy to listen to Chris in the mornings although they wouldn't listen to the rest of radio 1. I quite like Scott and Greg but i far prefer Chris, i know others aren't that keen on him but i absolutely loved the marathon show when he was literally unavoidable. Good times
  6. I know this has the potentiol to be rather unpopular but I wanted to say my bit on her death anyway. I'm neither interested in the story, nor care about it. However at the end of the day, the woman was a junkie, some may say she was a good singer or talented or whatever, personally I disagree and didnt rate her as a singer anyways. However my point is this, she was in the news WEEKLY for a considerable time to do with drugs. If a person gets involved with the dirty world of drink and drug addiction then they should get no sympathy whatsoever as they have brought it on themselves. They are a drain on tax payers, (thats you me and most of the others here as well I assume!) in terms of medical resources and policing, nothing more nothing less and they are not to be amired or publicised. I would be holding off with my sympathy, although its not been confirmed at the moment as far as I'm aware, but like many others I suspect it has been as a result, be it directly or indirectly, of her addictions. If someone takes themselves out the gene pool through their addictions then personally I dont think they deserve anyone feeling sad for them as its all their own fault. Fair enough her family will be sad but I dont think the general public should be sharing the same sentiment.
  7. I have to say I find the whole surgery thing very unnecessary, and at times patronising. I admit I used to listen to it years ago but that was before sunday nights had becomed aimed at kids, but we live in a world where the overwhelming majority have access to computers to explore and learn things online, schools (certainly mine did anyways) have guidance teachers to talk to about problems, and generally kids are a bit more exposed to adult life so things arent so much of a mystery any more. I'm just not convinced there is much of a need to have the surgery any more. Really not convinced that Aled is the right guy to front it either. Ok he seems nice and caring but when he's on breakfast I think he comes across as quite serious depending what the subject is when the others (Chris and Dave mainly) are having a bit of a laugh and joke around, and it comes across as a bit broing.
  8. No I'm straight, but I've had lesbian and bisexual friends and at 1 point I was very close to a lesbian couple, so close infact that I think the only time I wasn't doing things with them was when they were in the bedroom haha. I'm no longer friends with the couple and they're no longer together either, but when I was friends with them, I would hear stories from them about other girls they knew, and when they had fall outs and eventually broke up it was rather bitchy and bitter, more so than any straight relationship I've ever seen. Perhaps its unfair for me to throw gays into the same catergory like I did to begin with, as my experience is just with the lesbian side of things, I just assumed it might have been similar there as well.
  9. I know it does, I've been single for over 2 and a half years and in that space of time I've had virtually no interest/attention from the opposite sex. My problem is that this is almost every month, someone new will come along and she'll get really into them only for dramas etc to start very early on. I've lost count of the number of times I've said to her if shes having problems after only having just met the person then its not a good sign and mabey she should just call it a day. I know from experience the gay/lesbian world can be a rather bitchy and bitter place when things start to go wrong, possibly more so than the straight world. I just think there comes a time when someone has to perhaps put a hold on getting involved with the emotions of a relationship and concentrate on enjoying themselves and having a bit more fun, be it the physical side of things or just having a good time with friends. Not that I'm saying give up on love and be only out for 1 thing, but just to take some time out, away from the stresses of relationships and enjoy being single.
  10. Not really a big moan, but whever I see 1 of my friends she seems to be informing me of "gossip" which I don't know anything about nor have any interest in. The other day she wouldn't shut up about someone who caught her eye over the weekend and I got the whole story there, including the details of the inevitible dramas. Yesterday I was getting all sorts of stories about how she'd been off on a date with that person and had ended up going back and having a lot of fun blah blah blah. At least she acknowledged that she tells me details about her love life etc and when I give advice its almost always ignored. Don't get me wrong, shes a nice girl and I don't grudge her a love life at all. Its just she always seems to meet people who have baggage or ends up running into problems with them very early on. I've said to try and be single for a while and just have fun, but like I said, its advice which falls on deaf ears

    NotW scandal

What I'm struggling to understand is..... 1) why is all the hatred the public has, and the media wants them to have, being focused on Murdoch and Brooks, who was the editor at the time? If I cared about the story or had been affected then I think its safe to say that I would be concentrating on those directly involved with the hacking and the writing of the stories 2) why is everyone so f*****g surprised about the media side of it?! you mean to say you all thought that the media was genuinely acting in the best interests of "the common man", rather than just trying to sensationalise and generate bigger sales figures?! 3) why is everyone so f*****g surprised about the police aspect of it?! you mean to say that the self appointed deciders of right and wrong aren't acting in the publics best interests either? surprise surprise.....

    NotW scandal

Anyone else getting increibly bored with the story now?
  13. very pleased with the result. I thought Helen had it in the bag but she gambled and it didn't pay off. I thought her talking about another plan right at the end was incredibly dirty.
  14. Funnily enough, I was watching Comedy Roadshow a while back and on comes this skinny Asian guy who looked very familiar. Later on I did a spot of facebooking and I found his official fan page, so I got on there and asked him if he had been the compare of a show which was part of the Free Fringe a year earlier, and sure enough it was him. I remember at the time thinking he was good and it seems that many others agreed. Good times. Well, for a start I would say avoid those cafes anyways for the costs, I don't really know of any cafes that are near the Royal Mile but there are plenty pubs in the Grassmarket, just over the road and down from the Royal Mile. If you're really not that bothered about sitting on a bench eating a pre-packed sandwich, packet of crisps and a bottle of juice, then there are some mini supermarkets a stones throw from the Royal Mile and Grassmarket. Sainsburys is just up from the Grassmarket and Tesco is just up from the crossroads at the Royal Mile and the Bridges. Pretty sure it wouldn't be as busy and obviously it would probably be cheaper as well if you're looking for a day out on a budget. The part I'm not looking forward to this year is that I'll be doing the training for (hopefully) my new job right through the festival, town is gonna be absolutely horrible
  15. I think the difference with the Fringe and things like T and Glastonbury is that those pair only last a weekend while the Fringe lasts a month, also the other difference is with the Edinburgh festival there are a lot more opporunities to go and see things no matter what your price range, unlike those bigger music festivals where people can be very easily priced out of going as there is a limited number of tickets and people buy to sell on but which bumps up costs. I have to agree with the earlier comment about there being too much fuss made over them though, fortunately the 2 worst examples are now over for the year. I can't be bothered with the hype around a music festival, personally the thought of live music, camping, and generally being grubby for an entire weekend does not appeal to me let alone all 3 combined into 1 living hell. Fair enough people will wanna go, but they need to remember that there is a lot of others who can't go or have no interest in going.
  16. Fortunately for me my prospective new employers have said they're not that bothered about the other referance not having come back, they would only have an issue if it turned up and it was appauling, but I know it wouldn't be. Can't you get in touch Lucinda and ask her to give a confirmation of employment if nothing else as it looks bad to anyone else you apply for a job with. If she doesn't feel she knew you well enough then theres nothing that can be done about that, but if you kept your head down and got on with the job then she could at least have the desency to not make it look as bad for you as she seems to be at the moment. Going back to my new job, really worried about the driving tests which is a bit shit
  17. To be honest, as a "Scot", although I always identify myself as British, I found it rather embarassing and cringeworthy. Ok fair enough if someone wants to have national pride then let them, but I think there is such a thing as too much national pride and patriotism and sadly I don't think anywhere is worse for than than Scotland.
  18. I was watching something the other week and Jon Richardson was on it and there was a mention of the Edinburgh Festival. He said something along the lines of there is plenty coverage of things like music festivals which are only on for a few days, yet the Edinburgh Fesitval doesn't seem to get much and it really should get more. Naturally if it was to get more then people from elsewhere would complain that it was only on in 1 city etc etc, but take it from someone who lives here, the city is absolutely heaving when it is on, from morning right through till late night and there is definitly something for everyone to enjoy, even if you don't have a penny to your name. I'm just glad that something big like Radio 1 wants to get involved really.
  19. I hope its stand up yea, I know there are literally thousands of acts and performers offering almost everything but in reality other than singers I think the only other thing that really transfers to radio successfully is stand up comedy. Perhaps they can showcase some acts I've not heard of or discovered to help offset the disappointing lack of bigger names this year.

    NotW scandal

NotW was bad enough, but all the sun seems to be about is "our troops", and accusing anyone who so much looks at a kid of being a peado. Oh the joys.....
  21. I think its 3 minutes or something, far far too long for a trail in my opinion.
  22. Does anyone else find the "Scotland Is" trail for T in the Park which has been played today, no doubt all the way through till Sunday as well, absolutely bloody awful? When I was listening this morning when Chris played it, at first I thought it was a joke but then I began to think it was being dragged out a bit too much to be a joke.
  23. There is a section in the Fringe guide with Radio 1 presents comedy or something in the comedy section, if that makes sense.
  24. I got a start date for training for a new job today. Everything kicks off at the start of next month, just gotta hope they're alright with me having authorised absence from my current employer while I'm in training, I explained to the personel department and I'll get a call back tomorrow, I'll only be doing that while I'm in training thought, once I have passed the tests I'll be leaving my current one with immediate effect.
  25. While I still don't like her music, I hold my hands up and say that the interview was pretty entertaining, particularly when Adele met Fake Adele
